Hey guys,
new to the Forum. I have a Question for an upcoming 8th Edition tournament.
If I cast Spirit Leech on a Character riding a Monster, do I get to pick who takes the Leadership Test or is it randomized (1-4 Monster 5-6 Rider)?
Does the Monster use the Leadership of the rider assuming he is not the army General or does it use its own?
What happens when a Cascet of Souls bound spell hits this Model? Is it again randomized? Which Leadership do I roll against?

1. Q: Can spells that pick out individual models, even if they are in a unit, choose what is hit when targeting a model with multiple locations? For example The Fate of Bjuna is cast at an Orc Warboss on a Wyvern, the caster can choose to target the Warboss or the Wyvern and it will be resolved against the Toughness of the target. (Reference) A: Yes.
2. Q: When taking a Leadership test, sometimes you have to take it on your unmodified Leadership. What is your unmodified Leadership? (p10) A: Your unmodified Leadership is the highest Leadership characteristic in the unit. So the Leadership from any characters in the unit itself (but not from outside the unit, from Inspiring Presence for example) with a higher Leadership can be used unless specifically stated otherwise.
3. The description of the casket says "distributed as for shooting attacks", so they would be randomized.

rahotep75: Not quite. BRB Official Update Version 1.9, p.11: Q: Do units benefit from their General’s Inspiring Presence for the purposes of spells that use Leadership, such as Spirit Leech or Okkam’s Mindrazor? (p107) A: Yes. That said: The FAQ are what they are, but, frankly, GW has made a complete pig's ear of the concept of unmodified Leadership. In a logical system, the unmodified Ld of a unit would be the Ld of the model in the unit which has the highest Ld on its profile; the unmodified Ld of an individual model should be the Ld on its profile - and originally, it was. However, there have been various errata and FAQ the subject of "unmodified Leadership", which meant that, ultimately, "unmodified Leadership" in the BRB only applied to Spirit Leech - until that particular FAQ effectively got rid of it too. If it is not referred to in any AB (I could not find a reference myself), the concept is basically defunct. I suspect whoever wrote the FAQ misread the original FAQ, just like crownprinceimrik. The FAQ was actually saying that the Leadership from any characters in the unit itself can be used unless specifically stated otherwise, i.e. unless it specified that you could not use his Leadership (like, for instance, Skaven Assassins). This is supported by the non-English versions of the FAQ (German, French, Italian, Spanish) which still all read in translation: Q: When taking a Leadership test, sometimes you have to take it on your unmodified Leadership. What is your unmodified Leadership? (p10) A: Your unmodified Leadership is the highest Leadership characteristic in the unit. Do not include any modifiers from any source (for example Strength in Numbers, Inspiring Presence and the spell Doom and Darkness).
