That is some impressive analysis by colonelburton and FvonSigmaringen. But we all know warhammer points are completely made up at the whim of the army book writer with zero consideration for game balance.

Imo it should be a 58 point upgrade. People wouldn't be able to complain it was too powerful and would be consistent the idea of monster/chariot mounts being the full cost of the actual unit despite losing the rider (ie Warsphinx, Chaos Chariot etc).
Theodore Bruckner is a special character with a Monster demigryph mount which is interesting for comparison in the Tamurkhan expansion from Forgeworld.

I suspect we've put way more thought into it in this thread than GW ever has.

GW putting thought into something. LOL
I just spent 20 minutes just today putting Halberdiers into formation and gluing the blades back onto their shafts. Because for some reason, Halberdiers can't just stand at attention, they have to face their weapon forward, whether they can strike or not. Feels like they strike the plumes off of each others helmets more often than they hit enemies. And don't get me started on how their hook-shaped blades turn them into human velcro!
No, GW really does not think things through all that often
