We have all seen these screwy lists being posted. While I am not a huge tournament player, ran into too many WAAC players, I would mind a fairly narrative event. The Square Based channel on youtube have come up with what looks to me like a fairly good army comp for the tournies they intend to run. It looks fun and prevents 20 separate, 50 point gyrocopters with steam cannons.
Army Selection 2000 points Any Grand Army or Army of Infamy list(including the unsupported factions) Unit selections are limited to the lesser of: -any restrictions listed in the army list --OR 0-6 for all core, 0-3 for all special, character and Rare No allies
Armies may be comprised of models from any company or source as long as the match the scale and them of the World of Legend and are easily identifiable. Must be painted to battle ready standard Models must be on the correct base size or size correcting movement tray.
Like I said, looks good and is pretty common sense. What say you?

Personally I'd rather let the game breathe right out of the gate, there's no real meta that's going to be formed until it's played as written. However, this doesn't seem like the most unreasonable comp. Our group is going to play without comps for the time being, and see what the local emergent meta ends up being. We'll just have to deal with the Gyrocopter armada if/when it shows up.

I certainly can't stand WAAC players. But in my experience, comp restrictions are just another rules system that the WAAC player can stretch to the limit while claiming, "My army isn't broken. See it complies with the comp system."
When I encounter a WAAC player I try suggesting they dial back the cheese in their army. If that doesn't work I just decline playing against them. It helps that I don't play in tournaments. I only do pickup games and campaigns.

Likewise. My group is usually somewhere in the middle. We like to make lists that feel well built and feel good to play and win with, but we're not WAAC folks, and even though in the future we may enter a tournament here or there, we're not playing to dominate our local tournament scene or make it to World stage events. Warhammer has never been balanced, despite what some folks may claim about their favored edition (I have strong arguments for why I feel 8th is the most balanced myself...), and I don't think it needs to end up being 9th Age. That already exists for folks that want a game that's strictly concerned with absolute balance. Warhammer is for the absurd gaming stories, like when your lone remaining Swordmaster holds off a horde of Halberdiers by rolling double 1s to keep it from overrunning into your mage bunker, or watching your friend six-dice Curse of the Horned Rat, miscasting, then rolling quadruple 1s to only remove four models and having his Grey Seer blow up a ton of Clanrats, but manage to narrowly escape being sucked into the Realm of Chaos with a roll of 4.

To speed up the game I'd probably add in:
No rolling for partial hits under templates - everything is hit.
Measure charges from the farthest point.
Wizards in armour or that can purchase armour can cast spells.

Interesting, GW itself now has a rule of 3 for the Old World. Doesnt count detachments so you could have 3 Empire free company units and 3 free company detachments. This sounds like a good limit for general pick up game play if you bounce around a lot. Doesnt change the restrictions the list already has.
