wilsonthenarc and I got together yesterday and played a game for our ongoing campaign that has been outstanding for a while. It was my smallest dwarf banner vs his mid sized tomb king banner. My banner had also taken some casualties from past games and I decided not to replenish those losses to conserve resources/gold. I had about 700 points and wilson was maybe 1,800. From events phase wilson got a result where in one of his games both sides add monsters to their army worth up to 25% of the army value. I also got a result that let me choose one of the six rule book scenarios and choose who goes first. Plus because my army was 500 or more points less I got to choose table edge and rearrange d3 terrain pieces. So my army was much smaller but had many advantages. I decided on battle for the pass as this would maximize the distance between us. It didn't end up mattering much as three of his units had the entombed beneath the sands rule and he had three flyers and a unit of scouts. So he was still on top of me in no time. TK deployment from left to right: necrosphinx, dino gryphon (using rules from storm of magic), spear skeletons with tomb prince and level 2 caster, second gryphon. Dwarf deployment from left to right: storm of magic chimaera, irondrakes, crossbows with runesmith, stonethrower. Entombed beneath the sands two units of necropolis knights and a scorpion and a unit of scouting horse archers yet to be deployed. They went on the far dwarf flank past the hydra. More will follow in a few hours latter tonight.

Cracking beginning so far. Also, I will definitely order the featured battle mat next month.

Spoiler alert: the six skeleton horsemen archers didn't make it past turn 2.

Dwarves choose to go 1st. Dwarf Turn 1: Chimera changes facing to guard against the skeleton horseman in my back field and to allow for clear line of sight for the irondrakes who wheel so they can see the skeleton horseman. Irondrakes kill a few skeleton horseman. Stonethrower targets the necrosphinx and gets super lucky and takes it out. TK Turn 1: The remaining horseman decide to charge the chimera. Gryphons fly ahead full speed. The chimera takes out the remaining horseman in combat. Dwarf Turn 2: Picture is after movement. Chimera gets back in line and irondrakes change facing a bit. Stone thrower hits and wounds a gryphon but rolls 1 on wounds. Can't complain after the last turns result though.

TK Turn 2: Things start to get crazy here. Will rolls for all three ambushers and all three come on without any misfires. After remaining moves his entire army is in my face! Dwarf Turn 3: Chimera and irondrakes decide to combo charge gryph on the right. Crossbows with GW decide to charge one on the left. I choose to fight the one on the right first and the dwarves plus chimera do enough wounds to take the monster out. Chimera overruns and hits the second gryph in the flank, irondrakes stay put. We haven't fought the second combat yet so the chimera gets to fight again. Dwarves plus chimera do enough wounds to this gryph as well to take it right out. Crossbows overrun hoping to smash into the monstrous cav but come up short. From memory I needed a 7. The chimera could not reform because irondrakes are too close. TK Turn 3: One knight unit charges flank of chimera and the other charges into crossbows. Knights fighting chimera do enough wounds to take him right out and overrun into irondrakes. The ones fighting crossbows killed a bumch of dwarves. So dwarves were testing on double ones or maybe a 3. They fail and run. Center of unit to center of unit ends up strange and he pursues towards irondrakes and rolls high enough to catch dwarves.

Dwarf and TK Turn 4: Pic after TK turn. Dwarf portions sees stonethrower shot at scorpion but misses. Combat sees irondrakes run and caught. Knights pursue off table. In TK portion both units advance on warmachine. Dwarf and TK Turn 5: Stonethrower targets and ends up killing scorpion. Yay VP's! Knights make short charge to warmachine and make short work of it. It ended up 209 VP's in TK favor so a minor loss for dwarves. For our campaign we make recovery rolls and I ended up losing all of the crossbows but the warmachine and irondrakes made full recoveries. My character ended up losing a magic item which Will and I decide should be The Scepter of Stability. I had found this item in the land of the dead (where this battle took place) by looting a TK tomb. It made sense that this is what I would loose. And because I lost my banner retreats but I did not have any adjacent lands owned by me so I actually end up having this banner bounce back to the dwarf capital and it needs to sit there for a turn. On recovery will did not lose any units completely. He did lose some models here and there from larger units. A note on magic. You may have noticed I didn't mention it much. It didn't have any meaning full impact on this game. I did have a rune of spell breaking which I used early on. Besides that I don't think he got anything off.

The TK's got zero spells off. The Liche tried really hard to move the huge bus of skellys faster, but... No such luck.

Who was mvp? The chimera? IMHO: The Dwarf Stone Thrower. It sniped a NecroSphinx, 1-shot. It sniped a Tomb Scorpion, 1-shot. Those alone paid for it's points.

Very cool.
Kudos on "only" suffering a minor loss. With such a huge disparity in points that's pretty impressive!
