This is a very good event. Hasn't had an 8th edition track for a bit but I _think_ Corey would be open to hosting you guys if there was interest. He's a very good guy and runs a well run event.
Whoa I hadn't realized until just now that there is no 9th Age for 2017. Mind Blown.
I KNOW there is an audience playing 9th just because they miss 8th. It's an opportunity if you guys want to run something for him.

I agree. Great event and a great dude. I played Crossroads 2 or 3 times and would again.
Sadly, my staunch EEFL mentality says I prolly won't learn Aos or 9th Age just to attend this one event. If nothing else, I do a day trip and go and hang and bullshit with other players while proudly wearing a bright blue EEFL tshirt.

Seems now the Age of Sigmar has slowly but inexorably pushed back the 9th age.

Just locally mind you but there is a lot of regional variation. I think the ongoing changes in the 9th age system have made it less attractive to the folks who were playing it as an 8th replacement. As a game system I think it's fine and I am happy to play it. I also think people who thought 'the people' knew better then GW how to design games are realizing the hard way how difficult it is to get balance right - hey have made _a_lot_ of drastic changes in less then 2 years.
The problem remains growing the 9th age system. 9ths natural audience is 8th players without a home -the more changes they make to get away from 8th the less attractive it is to those players. 9th suffers from much the same problem as 8th in that the rules are complicated to try and draw a new player in to it. That's aside from the fact no one is selling it on the shelves to try and encourage folks to try it. For what it's worth AoS is actually better then 9th/8th in terms of being accessible to new players (the 8th rule book is very big and complex) and at least for Da Boyz/ Crossroads GT we've seen a lot of players new to the fantasy gaming hobby show up over the last few years for AoS. Those new players weren't being accrued at these events for the 8th ed years by and large.
For a variety of reasons I'd much rather play 9th/8th/AoS then KoW but I've been told by many that KoW is very easy to get into and the rules are available online. It's square base so that's also makes it an easy transition.

I'd go to this event, just as I said I'd do Unplugged if you guys want to go. The only stipulation for me is that we run our own thing (I'd like to see an escalation tournament at the next event I go to), and I provide all of the terrain/mats. Then I think why do we need to leave town for a weekend when this can just happen here...

It's square base so that's also makes it an easy transition. Kings of War has the same learning difficulty as Lords of the Ring/War of the ring, about mid way between AoS and 8th Edition. It is quite special for me for two specific reasons that no system has better portrayed mass pikemen units and that you can actually fight a quite balanced battle between a fantasy army and a historical one (Alexander vs undead, anyone?)

Okay EEFL folks. How many Rochester folks would make the trip for an 8th event. Narrative/open play or tournament. I can talk to Corey if enough people from local areas want to make the trip and one of us organizes it.
