I definitely want to try an Anvil list, perhaps next time I get out my Dawi I will give it a go. Combined with a Grungi banner you might have some (still not very) durable Slayers! It is too many points for 2k though, both of them together would be north of 600 points

Wow no organ gun, controversial Don't think I've played many games since 4th/5th without one. How did the anvil work out for you? 2 of the bound spells look alright, the armour one in particular, but it gets an awful lot of hate Which is precisely why you should leave it at home for this one 😀 I won the game where i fielded the double anvil (vs an elven alliance) with one of the anvils surviving and proving crucial. This was due to its unbreakable nature and the fact that I remember Thorek doing some great work in combat (good rolls lol) I definitely got lucky in the game and one of my opponents (2 vs 2) was very inexperienced. The second anvil got taken out early somehow (cant remember really) however was all the way over by its lonesome on one side of the field so diverted some elven resources at least. The one take away I recall was that I managed to cast the +1 armor save on my unit of Ironbreakers (which I actually call "The Anvil" ) which is 5*5 including a dwarf thane with Great Weapon. This unit charged a block of White Lions and with the spell ended up pulping (running down) them in that single combat round which proved pretty important. I rolled amazing and don't think i lost more than a single Ironbreaker in the combat. 5+ armor save + 5+ parry save vs White Lions who already need a 4+ to hit Ironbreakers is very nice. When with the charge you wound the elves on a 2+ the combat was one of the most decisive victories I have ever had over a White Lion unit in Warhammer. The Anvil of Doom isn't a particularly competitive choice but my usage of 2 along with an "Anvil" of a unit for whatever reason paid off in that game. The Antimagic provided by them early was very nice but considering the points it damn well should have been!

I would say try out the ungrim list over an anvil list in a 2000 point game. Ungrim is a beast and does work in combat. I find the anvil to be lacking and rarely take it but in large games (3,000+ points) I do sometimes take it.
I agree that if taking an organ gun you want at least one of the following: engineer, rune of foraging or rune of accuracy. The naked organ gun has usually under preformed for me. So you could get the 25 points by dropping a few rank and file.
Overall fine list though.

Just a few comments from my own experience, firstly it's based on 2400 points so you can take from it what you will. I don't have any Irondrakes but I make up for it with the remainder of my special selections. I'm a real fan of the hammerers and Ironbreakers. Not so much a fan of the anvil. If you've rolled as many 1's followed by 1-2's for Thorek you'll know what I mean. Sure the rules were revised for 8th but I don't feel it's an auto include unit. 290 points to get you immune to psychology - I'm Ld9 with a reroll most of the time, or I'm immune anyway. Rune of courage or longbeards etc. The armour boost is nice but only a single unit and the wrath and ruin is also nice, it's not as if you have anything else to spend power dice on. Talking of which you get a power die and dispel die. I just think it's a default to take a level 4 in most armies and they'll just pretty much match you die for die or if you roll low they'll just 1 die it. However that all said it's important to be different as this works in two ways. Firstly you gain experience of what works or doesn't work in your own army and what suits your particular style of play and secondly if you take the same list time and time again your opponents will find the weakness and then beat you. Regards Greg

Yep ungrim is fantastic, probably our best offensive lord and the bsb with grungni is almost essential in a list with him and slayers as you want it to give them the 5++ save vs shooting

Grungi is nice and kind of essential if you are facing shooty armies. Otherwise I tend to opt for Valaya, it really helps shut down the enemy magic phase

Otherwise I tend to opt for Valaya, it really helps shut down the enemy magic phase I'd take Grungni over Valaya every day of the week and twice on a Sunday. Simple reason is that it gives the bearer a ward save and you can take two other (no master) runes of your choice, while the other gives you a further +2 to the dispel and it gets rid of RiP spells. First of all there aren't that many RiP spells in the game and what if you go against a non magic army? Popular choices being WoC and daemons to a degree. Other dwarf armies... Greg just trying something, remember I'm new here so I'm still trying to figure out the forum click the link Dwarves Vs Skaven

+2 to dispel is a rather large bonus against magic heavy armies. It basically gives you lvl4 dispelling. The rip dispelling is a bonus. Against non magical armies it is obviously useless, as is grungi against non shooters. Horses for courses

Against non magical armies it is obviously useless, as is grungi against non shooters. Horses for courses So you'd have a BSB with a 4+ armour save? Non shooting armies tend to have magic missiles which Grungni works against. I'd rather take both if I could but the +2 dispel is more situational than the shooting protection. Greg

I have also been finding grungni quite situational as the bsb often doesn't make combat and am starting to try out armour/talisman runes or valaya instead. However in an ungrim list (where I think grungni is a must take) then I tend to take valaya on the slayers and it is groth that I might skip (depending on core choices and if I take hammerers of course). I suppose it depends on your local meta and mine is very magic heavy.

Don't forget with Ungrim you get an extra 100pt banner in your slayers so you have the option for both of you so wanted. Ideally I wouldn't have a 4+ on my bsb but list building is a game of trade offs isn't it. I like the protection valaya confers in a phase I am otherwise unable to compete in. Coupled with a spell breaker hopefully gimping the opponent's favourite spell you can really tone out the magic phase from the game

I do love him. During a game a while back I had him in a unit of slayers. The slayers all died to shooting and magic before making it into combat but Ungrim was left. There were several on lookers during this game who were not totally familiar with his rules but my opponent was. Ungrim declares a solo charge against a rank a file unit (I can't even remember what now but I think it was goblins) and all the on lookers are telling me that I am crazy and can't believe that a solo model just charged into a big unit of rank and file (to me it seemed like exactly what a slayer would do!). Well after a few rounds of combat they too understood the power of Ungrim!

Played a game last night, Dwarf Vs Empire on one of the siege game's we're doing. Dwarves were the attackers and my opponent took metal and death against me. Now I've not done the maths on costing but I prefer taking a couple of rune smiths with dispel runes and Grungni on my BSB. Anyway, you're all saying cut to the chase big guy, make your point... Final trans was cast at my Iron breakers (on a 25) I used a double spell breaker rune and managed to eat the spell next spell with ALL my 6 dispel dice remaining (to his 4 power dice) he cast the fate of Bjuna. After seeing 3x 6's I gave up looking... Valaya was useless in this situation. he rolled 5,6 for number of hits and minus my toughness he rolled 6 die all needing a 2+ to wound. As you know, he only has 2 wounds and I needed 5x 4+ rolls. I didn't make it. Moral of the story, "s#@t happens" Neither banner would have saved the BSB but IMO Valaya only augments your dice in the magic phase while Grungni saves you in the magic phase, shooting phase and combat phase - but only if you roll the dice you need and that applies to both banners.
