Thanks! It's good to know that I'm headed in the right direction.

Does anyone have good ideas for transporting a single, delicate, top-heavy model such as this?

don't transport it?
if that is not an option, I would stick magnets into the base and put it on a piece of sheet metal in some big tupperware box. it'll basically take up as much space as the rest of the army combined. but, all the pain of transporting will be forgotten when you bath in the admiration as you pull out a model as stunning as this.
For gaming itself, I would make the base heavier. maybe stick a decent size rock on there? Avoid the heartbreak of seeing this beauty tumbling down a miniature hillside!

Looks awesome. Highlights are the green flames coming from the skeletons and the necromantic book.

Youve done a great job. The flames and detail work really grab the eye. I could spend a long time looking at these pictures.
Put a rock on the top of the base or glue some weights to the bottom of the base to make it not so top heavy. I would then transport it by itself in it's own box or case. If you're worried about it shifting around some rare earth magnets in the base will allow it to attach nicely to some HVAC sheet metal (my go-to) on the bottom of a rubbermaid tote. OR just put a bunch of packing peanuts in that tote to keep it moving around. Messy but it would work.

Glad you like it, Ryryak!
Yeah, I think I might go with the weights on the bottom thing and the it's own box with peanuts. Thatshould get the job done. I don't really want to waste my magnets. They aren't cheap!

They aren't cheap! no they're certainly not. I buy them online and usually around 1000 at a time (yes, I've used thousands of rare earth magnets throughout all my models/armies) so I usually end up paying around $.04 per magnet or so.

The Mortis Engine looks great, really nice work. The colours work really well with each other.
Don't think I paid a great deal for my magnets either, got them off ebay from spider_magnets.
Magnetising the bases for storage is a great idea and something I hadn't really considered so much for the big pieces. I might look at getting a thin metal sheet for my tall storage boxes too, I have been getting quite a few models falling into each other

Slick job on the book and fantastic model. Would be a treat seeing that across the table.
