Yes, I echo the thoughts about the woods being too deadly, as stated in our game they killed the majority of a big chaos dwarf unit, which then allowed me to wipe it out in the last turn which meant nobody had the woods, with me then winning on VPs.
One other feature that might balance it - would be to give the unit in the woods some benefit to being there - such as being stubborn? And maybe say that only the unit that has been in there the most time gets it. Point with this is that it gives some incentive for early occupation.
