What? Wahahahahhaahhaa I should buy this book. It's a 100pt item that allows you to lay an extra D3 woods on top of your normal free wood. Going from memory, I think you can still pick the type of woods they can be. Great synergy with the moonstone but it does mean you have a naked lord so probably best taken on a high magic caster as at least you can get the protection tokens that way.

There are Horrors and Abominations and Greater Daemons and this one Elf dude says 'No worries mate, I got me one of those magic acorns'. I'm losing it....

Yeah, I've actually used it before. With great success, I might add! I didn't remember when it went down though. Before deployment is good.
Yeah, I played a game against Ogres where I took the Acorn on my Lv4, the Moonstone on a Captain and the WE magic staff that give you the spell that allows you to move forests. I rolled up 3 additional forests (We already had two on the table). I figured that he was going to bring an Ogre Bus so I plunked down 2 of the forests in the one spot that was most likely for them to go (Otherwise, due to terrain, they would've been way out to the sides). The other one I put way out of the action zone. As predicted, he took an Ogre Bus.
When we rolled to find out what type of forests they were, I think that they were the ones where the caster gets hit if he tries to cast magic. Not only that, but he couldn't march or charge without taking DT tests. I kept using my other wizard to keep them in those forests as long as possible. As soon as he got free of them (I think it took him 3 turns and a lot of arrows!) I simply moved my horde of Wildwood Rangers to the first forest he just left. By that time, he was already hurting. He turned his unit to face my Rangers, but I had advanced two Treemen up far enough to charge him in the rear as well. I won and ran him down rather quickly.
All that to say, Wood Elves have some nasty combinations of tricks. That's why I was concerned about the cannon thing. Good clarification though.

Comparing 8th edition books, the Wood Elves look scarier than the Dark Elves. Would like to face them one day

It depends. They are glass cannons. You have to be EXTREMELY careful about your close combats and only attack when you KNOW you can win. It's a dancing game with them. If you aren't very good in the movement phase, then they probably aren't for you.
That being said, they can be great fun. A lot of people talk about Wild Riders be so awesome, and they can be, but you have to be SOOO careful with them and it's usually best to have two units running together. I also like to put a Captain on Great Stag in with them for that extra punch. If you don't wipe out or break a unit in the turn you charge, you might just lose the combat. And don't frontal charge a unit that can Stand and Shoot. They'll weaken you to the point that you can't do enough damage.

Well, shoot.
After talking with the guys, it turns out that we might not have as much time as we originally thought. So I think that we are just going to play a 1500 pt game of Triumph and Treachery. That should be good as well. I think I'll run my Lizardmen. I've been itching to play them as well. I'll work on creating a list tonight and reading over the rules, then I'll post my new list and see what you guys think.

Yeah, Horace, I thought about the lack of bodies and it concerned me a bit, but I'm hoping that the monsters make up for it. They won't really have artillery to kill them and they can dish out the attacks. I think if I get a few monsters into a block of zombies or skeletons, then they'll be able to generate enough kills to take out 50 in a round or two. I know you are not playing this actual game anymore but even though they don't have artillery the VC army book does have the tomb banshees which are really good at taking out monsters. Just make sure to keep your distance from them and you should be good (it is only 8" range). Also, I think I will give this dwarf list a try soon. It is more shooting and fewer bodies than I take in my standard lists but it looks good.
