So, in perusing this board and those of other games I play I see many people talk about how the game isn't "perfect". This rankles me a bit. A perfect game is a near impossibility. Every game brings in stats and some form of randomness. If there is no randomness, then you are running a simulation, not a game.
Many of us have played games for years. There are versions we like and don't like for various reasons. I think the phrase "it's not perfect" should be replaced with the phrase "I preferred when x happened instead of y" or "x edition of game z was perfect for me"
Just had to say something after seeing that phrase on a few too many sites today. I figured you'd all get it.

Totally. I think that's just the "default" phrase that people say when something happens that they don't like (usually losing), when they play game "X" instead of game "Y", or they exploit a flaw in the rules. In any case, it's an excuse. But hey, it's not a perfect gaming community.

I don't know it doesn't get me down. Look games aren't perfect. But sometimes there is too much of a sense that game X is the shining example of what all games should be and game Y can't hold a candle.
You can like/love game X and still recognize it's flaws. Being honest about the presence of those flaws in game X helps people have a rational discussion about games Y, Z, etc. in comparison.
A recognition of it's imperfections helps shape reasonable expectations of how well game X works rules as written and what we should expect out of other games.

I agree, but the places ice been people were championing the idea of perfection, hence my ire.

Do you think a game like chess is balanced and fair?
I think its broken, white has ASF...

I don't put chess and games like it in the same category. Also, since white has a slight advantage in win percentage (not by much) it is not truly balanced.

Hmm, I don't know whether I would categorise myself as perfect or broken...you?

I don't put chess and games like it in the same category. Also, since white has a slight advantage in win percentage (not by much) it is not truly balanced. I was trying to point out the irony of what many people consider to be an equal game, or at least the closest to it. Thing is we strive for perfection, but we also know in Warhammer it cannot happen, even in mirror matches you get poor tactical choices or just plain old bad luck. If we knew the outcome you'd not bother playing. In any game of Warhammer you need three things, the right opponent, the right list and a lot of luck. You influence only one of these things so sure, everyone wants the perfect list. Random question, based a little on skill and luck but what is the fewest number of moves white can checkmate black in chess? Then ask yourself was that skill or luck? By the same odds, what's the fewest number of moves black can make to checkmate white? Was that luck or skill? 😊 Greg

I'm definitely broken. I can play the same list twice; once brilliantly and the next time as a buffoon. gregwarhamsters, I'm with you.

Many people talk about how the game isn't "perfect". I get you. If there was a PERFECT game, I wouldn't want to play it. Imperfection is what makes a game interesting, and therefore to me, fun. A Perfect game would be no fun to me. Warts & All. Eighth Edition isn't perfect and that is why I love it.

Random question, based a little on skill and luck but what is the fewest number of moves white can checkmate black in chess? No takers? White can do it in 3 but black can do it in 2 However you've really gotta be unlucky* to lose in this mannerGreg *Stupid.
