So I need to invest in a table that can be tucked away when not used. Foldable? We will probably add a gaming mat on it.
So I wonder if anyone has a recommendation on this?

I have used a foldable table. Two 6ft foldable tables side by side with a mat will work. You could also do 1 table with 3 four foot lengths of plywood and a mat, though you have to be careful not to lean on that.

I actually use 2 cupboard doors which I took out when we moved into our house. They are bigger than our current crappy dining table and give us roughly 5.5' x 3.5' table which we then cover with the battle mat.
If I was going to make one I would probably just go and buy a few sheets of thick-ish MDF (broken down into 2 or 3 parts of your desired full table size) and attach a few flat hinges so it folds down and can be stowed away

If you get a board and cut it down the middle so that it can fold, attach a piano hinge along the fold to achieve your connection. Also, the better quality wood you use, the less deflection you will have in the board. (If the corners aren't supported properly, eventually the board will start to droop down at the ends and you'll end up with a convex table top.
I just recently bought a new table board for my games and had it cut to the 6'x4' dimensions. It's my plan to build a frame for it and hinge it the way I mentioned so that I can store it easily when I'm not using it. I'll try to take pics of the process and upload them as a tutorial.

I've never seen that before, but it sure does look cool! I'm not totally convinced about how "easily" it can be assembled, but it looks like it sure does get the job done and in an efficient manner. Hopefully, you'll hear back from them soon.

I keep one in my parents garage. It's an 8x4 table made with plywood,2x4's and insulation foam. On the corners I've placed O-hook screws and I've rigged a pulley system on the walls of the garage so that I can store the table up against the ceiling.
Only downside is it takes two people (more is better) to raise/lower the table, it's something that can't be done solo.

So bought three pieces of 4’x2’ (little bit wider) of wood. Need to find a way to fix them to a table or together or someone will spill beer all over sooner or later.  |

Well you could attach it tot the table but a bit of non slick neoprene or an old towel under neath might provide some traction

You could go buy a piano hinge and attach them beneath. That way, they'll fold up and you can store them out of the way when you aren't using them. I would put a towel or something down beneath them so that he hinge doesn't scratch the table beneath, though. This is a good example of how a piano hinge can work:  |

As long as you put it on a table that is not drastically smaller than the board. |
