So let's say we got plague monks with plague furnace in the middle. They are charged in the flank by a unit with high initiative. What happens in cc when there are only 1 monks left and it's killed?
Do the plague furnace fight back as is not in base contacts? Are all attacked lost of the flank unit now in contact but its initiate is already done killing the lonely monk?

This is covered by BRB p. 61:
Occasionally, a situation can arise when one or more units are no longer in base contact with the enemy, but at least part of the enemy unit is still alive. This normally occurs when an enemy has been charged in the rear — as casualties come from the rear rank first, this would in theory leave the attackers stranded from their foe. Clearly this is wrong, just as warriors on a real battlefield would push on to continue the fight, and would not stop fighting if the enemy was standing a few paces away, so must warriors on the miniature battlefield.
Whenever a unit becomes stranded in this manner, the attacking unit is immediately nudged (by as small an amount as possible) to bring it back into contact with the foe. This move cannot be used to alter the facing the attacker is in base contact with, nor is it an opportunity to change the attacker's formation or charge a unit not engaged in the fight. If the attacker cannot be moved in this manner, then the defending unit is moved instead.

Thx! But I was not thinking about how to move them, more about what units are allowed to fight. The furnace is not in contact at the beginning of the cc round as one monk is in the way. Will update with pics

So this is the position. Have I understood it correctly? 4 marauders can attack the lonely monk and when the monk dies no other attacks are possible and then at end of combat the marauders are moved into close combat with the furnace and next combat 10 marauders can attack the furnace? the furnace and monk face right and the Marauders face up.

Furnace is _part_ of the unit so can attack as a member of the unit. But apparently you are asking what happens when all the Rank and file are destroyed.
Interestingly if I recall correctly when all non characters (Rank and file/command) in a unit are killed and only characters are left the remaining characters no longer are part of the one time unit (as characters can not form a unit with other characters only as part of a rank and file unit)
Timing of when this dissolution of the unit happens I don't recall. It was covered in one of the FAQ's in relation to damage over time RIP spells killing all the RNF in a unit. The characters are no longer part of the unit after the RNF is destroyed so non of them are effected.
Timing of dissolution would matter in this setting if it's before the plague furnace attacks then it doesn't swing I would guess.

strutsagget : The unit is nudged immediately into contact, after the last model is killed, ergo still in the current round of combat. Remember that even if the plague monk had survived, the Furnace could still attack and be attacked across the gap (BRB p. 49 Incomplete Ranks). @ gnjoronh: - Official Update Version 1.9, p. 11:
Q: At what point after a unit has been wiped out do any characters remaining count as having left the unit? (p101) A: As soon as the last model from the unit has been removed, any remaining characters will count as a new unit. Note that this will cause Panic tests to all friendly units within 6” (including the newly formed unit of character(s)) as the unit has been destroyed.
Now, one could argue this leads to a No More Foes scenario (BRB p. 61), in which the attackers could then overrun into the new unit. However, this scenario is specifically for Multiple Close Combats, which is not the case here. In addition, models that are already in CC cannot normally be taken out of CC. The Furnace as part of the combined unit was already in CC, and thus would remain in CC. This is supported by the paragraph on nudging the attackers into contact with the enemy. Note also that two or more characters can actually form a unit.
- BRB p. 97: A character is normally permitted to join units of infantry, beasts, cavalry, monstrous infantry, monstrous beasts or monstrous cavalry. Characters can also join other characters belonging to one the troop types listed above, thus forming an impromptu unit entirely made of characters.

@fvonsigmarigen How about when its a gap with two units next to each other charged in the rear? Like this position in miniwargaming last game. Is the dark riders to the right allowed to fight over the gap?

Yes, as explained by the Incomplete Ranks paragraph, on BRB page 49.
"Strange gaps where models are missing from a rank do not prevent warriors from fighting.
If a unit is fighting to its flank, the models in the incomplete rank are moved into contact with the enemy, there to fight and be fought normally. If the unit is fighting to its rear (or fighting to both flanks) some enemy models might not end up in base contact because of the models in the incomplete rear rank. In this specific situation, the models can fight across the gap, even if not physically in base-to-base contact. In reality, the chargers would not have stopped one step away from the enemy and would d have moved in to continue the fight — treat these models as being in base contact with the enemy."

Lol, I just watched that same BatRep yesterday. Archaon is so ridiculous. Took out Malekith like he was nothing.

Yeah. 10 attacks? Why wouldn't you use that?!? So what if he might hit his own guys? They're all just cannon fodder anyway.

@fvonsigmarigen How about when its a gap with two units next to each other charged in the rear? Like this position in miniwargaming last game. Is the dark riders to the right allowed to fight over the gap? Are these two separate Chaos units fighting? Or is it a character on a mount attached to the infantry? If it's the former wouldn't the dark riders (in the rear) only be allowed to attack the unit they charged? (ergo, the cav character); if it's the latter then yes they'd be allowed to attack over that gap EDIT: What I'm trying to say is: If you've got two units you declare a charge against one of them and can only attack the one you charge. In this case the dark riders attack EITHER the warriors or the knights (including any characters attached to the units) depending on who they declare the charge against.

@ryryak its two chaos units next to each other. Further away is a single chaos knight, rest already killed. Closest is a warrior of chaos unit with an extra character in it (Archaon). But think only a single model the champ is left in the unit 😊 spoiler.... Archaon won... Might be a second one hiding behind Archaon.
