Let's say I shoot a cannon with a cannon or a dark elf with a cloak of twilight. Will it remove one wound/crew or D6/D3 for being multi-wound?
So is crew only wound markers or are they one wound models?
If war machines are affected by multi-wound what is the ruling on monsters and handlers?

My interpretation is that cannons crew is just wound markers so multi-wound works.
Regarding monsters and handlers, the wording says; if wounded remove a crew(as in singular) if a 5-6 is rolled.

BRB Official Update Version 1.9, p. 8:
Q: A war machine is wounded by a hit with the Multiple Wounds special rule. Is the number of Wounds lost limited to 1? (p45) A: No.
BRB Official Update Version 1.9, p. 9:
Q: When a Monster and Handlers unit suffers a Wound from an attack that causes Multiple Wounds, is the multiplier applied after rolling to see who is wounded? (p73) A: Yes.

Regarding monsters and handlers. So should I read that as it can lose multiple crew members from a canon hit or that the number of wounds is neglected if I roll a crew member as they have one wound each? 🤔

When a monster/handlers unit suffers an unsaved wound, you first have to roll to determine whether the monster or the handlers are wounded (1-4 Monster; 5-6 handlers). After that, you apply the MW multiplier and an equal number of handlers are removed.

My pleasure. Note also that any excess wounds would not carry over from the handlers to the monster, but, of course, if the monster is killed, then any remaining handlers are removed as well.

Um...a single handler has 1 wound (typically). Last time I checked you don't multiply wounds against single wound models, the "excess" wounds are wasted.
This isn't AoS...

On reflection, I would agree. While there are parallels between war machine crew and handlers, they do seem to differ in this respect.
