Yeah, I have NO problem with 3rd party companies making knock off minis for WHBF. That's what keeps the mega-corporations like GW honest. When their prices start getting too ridiculous, people WILL go elsewhere. That just business 101. And with more and more Kickstarter campaigns being backed all the time, and producing as good quality, if not better, than GW, then GW could quickly find themselves in a very tight spot!
As far as 9th Age goes, I initially supported it because (at the VERY beginning) they were merely talking about making a FEW small changes here and there to certain rules that were obvious problems, but keeping the game basically 8th edition. Pretty much releasing merely a FAQ. But more and more people started joining in, trying to make THEIR favorite army a wrecking ball army that none could stand up to. It escalated quickly and blew WAAAAY out of proportion, ending up with new names, rules, avoiding potential lawsuits, etc., for what should have been nothing more than 2-3 free PDF pages of fan-made rules. Take it or leave it, but still supporting 8th edition. Instead, we got an entire new game with common players trying to fill a vacuum for a game that no company created, by making and sculpting their own models. Some are producing high-quality models (like Lost Kingdom Miniatures) and are obviously trained in the latest, greatest modeling software available, but then we're also having to sift through many products like this one, where the modeler simply didn't really know what they were doing. What's more, many of these "companies" are only producing one or two armies (their favorites of course) and then dropping it entirely. We need someone to step up and produce quality products for ALL WFB armies, IF they are going to produce any at all. I know that takes time, but there should be some indication of that in their work. Otherwise, they need to stop attempting to barely support a system that has no corporation backing it and support the one that COULD.
