It was the turn of the mighty Dawi to take on the High Elves in my latest battle!
My brother, fresh from his victory (at last) with his Empire opted to take his High Elves and trotted out a list using his new Loremaster and quite a lot of Archers which he had acquired along with some Spearmen he was after.
I opted for an Anvil of Doom list, along with a block of Rune of Slowness-wielding Thunderers &Burlock Damminsson Grimm Burlocksson. These were complemented with a Flame Cannon, Cannon, Miners, Longbeards, Slayers and Hammerers. I figured my Anvil could hold an area if forward placed fairly well, and that I would forward place my Flame Cannon (entrenched) along with the Thunderers, backed up by my 2 main fighting blocks (Hammerers and Longbeards). The Miners would be used as ambushers, either to move on artillery or to join as and where required. The Slayers and Gyrocopter were for use as interference.
My list:
Runelord on Anvil of Doom (Great Weapon, 2 Runes of Spellbreaking & Master Rune of Gromril)
Grimm Burlocksson
Thane (Handgun, Shield, Battle Standard, 2 Runes of Slowness & Master Rune of Grungi)
24 Longbeards (Great Weapons)
19 Thunderers (Shields)
21 Hammerers
18 Miners
18 Slayers
Cannon
Gyrocopter
Flame Cannon (Rune of Forging)
His list (approx):
Loremaster (Book of Hoeth, Talisman of Protection)
Mage (High Magic, Level 2)
Battle Standard (Shield of Merwyrm)
29 Spearmen
15 Archers
15 Archers
10 Archers
23 Swordmasters
19 Phoenix Guard
7 Shadow Warriors
Eagle
Eagle
Tiranoc Chariot
Bolt Thrower
Flamespyre Phoenix
We decided to just play a standard battleline, then rolled the scenery from the book. We ended up with a table with a river down the middle (just got a bigger table now the river didn't really reach!), some Quicksand, a Marsh and a building with a few obstacles and some ruins. I deployed as mentioned above really, with the Flame Cannon fairly central and forward and the Thunderers alongside. The Hammerers and Slayers went next to the Thunderers to make use of the Grungi banner. The Longbeards were placed on my far right and the cannon and Slayers on the left along with the Gyro. A lack of hills left my cannon somewhat exposed but I intended to swing my Slayers around to try and offer it some protection. Removing the Eagles and preferably the Phoenix and Bolt thrower were early priorities to protect my war machines.
He deployed more right-side leaving my Longbeards a little isolated, hiding his Phoenix a little behind some ruins and everything else pretty much in a line, with his Swordmasters and Loremaster at the back. His Shadow Warriors deployed just behind the Swamp pressing up on my right flank
