Hi, What do guys recommend using for artillery bases? Are there rules as to what size and shape you have to use for 8th ed? Thanks

Some have come with bases in the past, i have bolt throwers and cannons on 40mm squares. Bigger warmachines on 60mm round. They just look better on bases.

The relevant rule is BRB p.80: "A model should always be mounted on the base it is supplied with. That said, some models aren't supplied with a base. In these cases you should feel free to mount the model on a base of appropriate size, or simply pretend that the model is on a suitably sized base."Obviously with AoS changing everything over to round bases (or models just being discontinued) you have to look back to what base the model came with when it was available during 8th. There's a list of that here: eefl.freeforums.net/thread/611/base-size-conversionMost warmachine models didn't come with bases - for example all the Dwarf artillery, and the elven bolt throwers - so you can just build them without a base if you want. However, I find that models look better on a base and are a bit more sturdy too. I've therefore put Dwarf artillery on whatever square base best matches the footprint of the warmachine, so a mix of 40x40, 50x50, 60x40, 75x50.

Im building an empire army and none of the artillery came with bases. I would like to keep all the guns on the same size and style base. Im down to two sizes, the 60mm round and the 75mm x 50mm rectangular base. The 60mm round would allow me to use ninth age rules as well as eighth ed rules. But I like the look of the rectangle base. Oh, well Ill figure it out eventually.

Warmachines don't normally have bases according to rules. As it's a complete charge when you nudge a piece of the machine. So you can make fun angles/gamy angles. To continue the charges/overrun. That said I like to run my war machines on oval/round AoS bases as I always got a ton of those over from rebasing to square But the base is never part of the gameplay. I always think but have not done yet something like this.

Nicest bases I've found are the Warlord scenic ones with gabions etc.
Unfortunately they only sell them as part of the English civil war ordinance battery box.
Some nice artillery pieces for empire if you're not overly fussed about sticking to heroic scale 28mm!

It's under pike and shot, English civil wars, ordinance battery.
Helpfully my phone won't copy the link from my browser! You can often find it cheaper on darksphere.co.uk or goblingaming.co.uk etc
