It's the beginning of a new year and it's time for the first "Most Feared Unit" of 2019! And we start with one of the oldest army books in the game still, though our own KevinC has provided some new rules as well for them. Of course, we're talking Beastmen!
This is personally an army I've never played against, so I'm going to have to leave an open mic here for you to provide your opinion: What is the beastmen's most feared unit? How do you counter it?
Let's talk all things Beastmen!

I’ve never played against them in 8th, only with them 😀.
There are a number of units that are good in the army, Doombulls, Minotaurs, even humble Gor are great but they also normally have weaknesses that detract from them being overpowered. This could be something as simple as being overcosted, which reduces the overall effectiveness of the army to being open to frenzy baiting (or a combo of both). Like the Empire, Beastmen work best when units/options complement each other.
If I were facing them, the unit I’d probably fear the most is a block of 40-50 Gor with AHW, but only if they had the Beast Banner (for the +1 Str) and a buff to their leadership (to ensure primal fury).
The Doombull can be brutal but he can’t really take on larger units by himself (unless he has gained a number of attacks before engaging them) and run solo is vulnerable in the same way as all monsters.
The army is often thought of as being at the weaker end of the scale but after using them a fair bit, I’d argue this is mainly down to a number of the units being overcosted (minotaurs and the monsters are prime examples). Otherwise the army isn’t bad at all and can hold its own against many out there.

Take the monsters down to 200 each & you got a mean army. The main powerful units are Doombull builds: Flying Doom- (Magic Carpet, Charmed Shield, Tal. Protection, H. Armour [Paired Weapons or G. Weapon]) Or Heavy Metal (H.Armour, Shield, Ramhorn Helm, Dawnstone, ASF Sword, Gnarled Hide). Some cool items can turn mediocre units into great ones... Blackened Armour being one. Gives the unit the hero's in a 4++ vs. Fire... Imagine that on a Minotaur hero (BSB?) in a unit of AHW Chaos Trolls (gaining frenzy from the Mino)... Razorgor are very good chaff & Antichaff. A block of them with a Mino in gains frenzy too... I usually take about 4 T.chariots, but 7+ would be awesome to field

While I play Beastmen more than I face them I think their most feared unit is Bestigor.
Strength 6 attacks with a good chance of rerolls to hit means that every single other Warhammer army is wary of allowing a unit of these elite Beastmen to engage their chosen targets on the terms that they seek.
From the forest they come.
Be afraid!

Whereas I like bestigor, I use them as a bunker rather than the pushing element of my army...
They are quite fragile (only WS4, T4, 5+ AS & ASL). Most are dead before they get to swing, lol.

I found that too, though I’m hesitant to use them as a wizard bunker as I keep killing more of them from miscasts than through any other reason (I tend to have poor luck on that table!). I now tend to run them 36 strong in a 6*6 formation.

Rank of 6 Ofc When taking Gor, I take a unit of 60, sometimes with +1s banner...

People tell me to beware the Doombull although I've never played against them either!

I only ever played against them once, so it' isn't the most informed opinion out there... but there was some kind of special character that would block units from showing up during the deployment phase? half my army didn't show up for the battle as I recall.

I haven't played Beastmen all that much either, but every time I have, I pretty much wiped the floor with them. (Except one time in a tournament, where my Beastmen opponent was kicked out immediately after we played because the TM totaled up his army points by hand and found that he had cheated - on purpose - and included another unit to give him the edge. Even then, I almost beat him. I beat his main block in CC - with Empire Halberdiers and Warrior Priest - and failed to run them down when they fled. End game there. He had the edge in points, but he cheated and thus, I don't count that one. It was a rather big to-do about it.)
Overall, there really isn't ONE unit that I just fear to face from Beastmen other than a souped up Doombull. Those guys could be nasty! Eventually, I want to collect a Minotaur themed army, but I have a long way to go before I get to that point!

I think that is Skarsnick from the orc book. I’m pretty sure none of the Beastmen characters do that

Yeah, that's Skarsnik.
Slugtongue causes wounds after deployment within 36" of him. Roll a dice for each unit: 4-5 = D3 no AS wounds 6 = D6 instead

goes to show how much I've played against beastmen
