Hi Guys, Since Wood Elves are trending, let’s join the bandwagon 😉 and, I want to try out Wildwood Rangers! They are the only unit in the book I havent tried out, and their models are super sweet. And to be fair, 11 points for an ASF Great Weapon Elf with the possibility for 2 attacks? Sounds acceptable. The list: ++ Standard (Wood Elves - Army Book (2014-5) -V8.8.0.) [2496pts] +++ Lords +Spellweaver [285pts]: (AB) Calaingor's Staff, (BRB) Talisman of Preservation, Lore of Life, Wizard Level 4 + Heroes +Glade Captain [152pts]: (BRB) Dragonhelm, (BRB) Ogre Blade, Battle Standard, Hand Weapon, Shield Spellsinger [105pts]: (BRB) Dispel Scroll, Lore of Life, Wizard Level 1 + Core +Dryads [110pts]: 10x Dryads Eternal Guard [378pts]: Champion, Musician, Standard Bearer . 29x Eternal Guard: 29x Shields Glade Guard [160pts]: Musician . 10x Glade Guard: 10x Trueflight Arrows + Special +Deepwood Scouts [170pts]: Musician . 10x Deepwood Scouts: 10x Hagbane Tips Tree Kin [270pts]: 6x Tree Kin Warhawk Riders [135pts]: 3x Warhawk Riders Wildwood Rangers [306pts]: Musician, Standard Bearer, 26x Wildwood Rangers + Rare +Treeman [225pts]Waywatchers [200pts]: 10x Waywatchers ++ Total: [2496pts] ++Created with BattleScribeIdea is to have a WE battleline with the Rangers in the center. Some shooting support and Life magic because we are no high Elves with ward saves and such. Try outs tomorrow 😎 C&c welcome

I like that list and could definitely see myself running it. What are your thoughts on the staff? It always frustrated me that it replaced one of your spells rather than being a bound item.

First time I Will be using it, but I feel you. I actually wanted a 2nd lvl 3 or 4 caster, but choices had to be made. First drafts had a Treeman ancient, but he got cut. More thoughts likely to follow after tomorrows game 😅

Do you know what army you're going to be fighting? At first glance, I really like the list. It is very close-combat oriented, which could take your opponent by surprise. You don't have a ton of fast-moving units, but those warhawk riders and the waywatchers should be able to knock them off balance and threaten their warmachines (if any)..

My opponent has Dwarves, Empire, Ogres, Dark Elves, Skaven and Vampires. And since this week we’ll be playing at my place there is an off chance he takes one of my other armies (High Elves and Warriors of chaos). I like it that way tho, makes it as such that you have to prepare for multiple opponents. If I know in advance I use that knowledge to the fullest

I like it, I would probably switch the champions around from eternal to rangers as that is the unit you want to try out. Also think another s5 is better then another s3. Let us read the battle report later!

So, why are you taking the staff? I'd always seen it described as not-that-useful.

Did you get a chance to use the army? How did it go?

Did you get a chance to use the army? How did it go? Unfortunately, no. My opponent called in sick at the last moment. But I got 2 games planned on easter weekend to make up for this 😉 I did Some painting in stead.

I got in a game last sunday with this list. I played vs Dark Elves and we rolled Blood and Glory. Opponents list was infantry heavy with a block of Black Guard, Executioners and Corsairs.
Deepwood Scouts were my MVP. I rolled godlike with them all game. 1 shooting round they ended up killing 8 Black Guard with 10 shots. No need to say I had no issues killing that unit. By doing so killing his general would give me the win. This happened with the Wildwood Rangers. He could have also gotten the win in that combat. He charged me with a Hydra and his Corsairs with general. Since my unit had both my BSB and caster, and a standard, my Rangers were worth 4 fortitude. He failed to get in the Hydra, and that ended up casting him the game. If this wasn’t Blood and Glory I would have lost.
On the staf, it would have fulfilled his goals, if it wasn’t for my stupid forest placement, allowing him to get in on T1

What would you do differently now that you’re tried them?

What would you do differently now that you’re tried them? Yea they are solid, as long as you don’t compare them to High/Dark Elves counterparts. Where almost every Wood Elves unit is elite compared to other Elves (more expensive but better Archers, Spearelves,...), Rangers are the opposite. Thats something to keep in mind, Spearelves are actually more elite in a Wood Elves army. I like what I did with them. I think MSU could also work. Things I would do different is actually controlling the forest(s) in play. Spare for that, 11/model for an ASF GW Elf is a good deal
