With this rule it says wood elf casters inside a wood get +1 to their casting attempts. I’ve always taken this as only casting attempts so they don’t get +1 to Dispel attempts. Am I reading this right? (It was something that came up on a FB page so wanted to check I’m not talking rubbish...) Cheers

Cheers It's simular to the skull of rarkos beastman item ( all casting attempts with 6" of the skull get +1 to there value ) but I've never thought it would add +1 to dispells....

You are reading this right, and anyone claiming otherwise would be talking rubbish.
Wood Elves AB . 36: "Blessings of the Ancients: Any model that has this special rule, and is within a forest, adds +1 to all attempts to cast spells."
Attempting to cast is a spell is not attempting to dispel a spell.
