Hi all,
Have a 2500pt game coming up this weekend against most likely High Elves. I've played against this opponent in the past, but always with my Lizardmen. I'm now battling him with my Dwarfs, my main army, but one I haven't played in over 7 months. His High Elves usually have come with a horde of White Lions with botWD, and a big horde of Spearmen. The rest switches between dragon princes, archers, Phoenix Guard, etc. But the WLs and Spearmen have been staples.
So I have two main lists for the army but remain undecided. Please note: I do not own a lord on shield bearers.
List 1
Belegar Runesmith (spellbreaking, stone, shield) Thane BSB (Grugni, shield, oath stone) Engineer (brace of pistols, rune of stone)
28 Longbeards, shields, FC, rune of stoicism (BSB here) 14 Thunderers (shields, musician, standard)
22 Ironbreakers (FC) (Belegar here) 10 Miners (steam drill, FC) 2 Gyros
Grudge Thrower (naked, due to BotWD)
10 Irondrakes (FC, 2x rune of slowness)
Organ Gun (named due to BotWD)
The idea here is 2 strong blocks, and some shooting to try and bring down those white lions to manageable levels and if not, use gyros to re-direct.
List 2 is essentially the same, except that we swap Belegar for a runelord on anvil for the extra magic defense.
I have a cannon, Grimm Burloksson, Slayers, and Thorgrim.
Any feedback and dieas is welcomed!

How competitive are your games? I just can’t get on with the runelord on anvil. It’s just just a points sink.
I’ve not taken Belegar but I imagine that he’s not bad vs elves as his main weakness of low strength attacks is not a huge issue.
The naked organ gun and engineer is a great counter to the WLs. Between that, the gyros and the irondrakes, you should mince his horde.
I’d be tempted to add some runes to the grudge thrower, the Ro Accuracy to ensure it hits and the 1 Ro penetrating (for +1 Str) as it makes so much difference vs T3 elves. Dropping one of the Ro slowness on the Irondrakes will help free up points for this.

I mean I'd say semi competitive. Not meta listing, but a horde of 30 White Lions with BotWD isn't casual either. hehe.
With the runes, I wouldn't be able to hit the white lions with the grudge thrower though at all.

Personally I would want to double down on the Organ Guns Vs Elves. Especially against White Lions with the BoTWD as you need reasonable strength non-magical attacks to thin them out and they get extra save because of the Lion Cloaks. Adding an Engineer is an excellent move. I think an un-runed thrower is probably a waste of points (what would you use it for?) and would swap for a cannon to counter any enemy War Machines/Big bits. Gyros are also excellent Vs hordes, particularly elven ones.
I don't mind the Anvil, it is alright just pretty boring and a bit expensive. I have used it quite well as an area denial piece as well, it buffs the Runelord and you can make him fairly unkillable plus he is unbreakable.

Honestly, I agree with double Organ Guns targeting the White Lions, but I'd focus the Gyrocopters on harassing the Spearmen horde. Spearmen hordes work best with their sheer volume of attacks. The Gryos will whittle them down quickly and take out a major component of his build.
I've found that hordes like White Lions are good, but not impossible to be taken down, though when they have support from other major units, they can be night impossible to defeat. If you can manage to hit his support units with minor unit in your army, and focus you Organ Guns to tearing up the White Lions before you engage, then you should be good.
I also agree that a cannon would be handy in case he brings a Frostheart or some pesky eagles to hunt your warmachines.
