Thanks Horace! You all may remember this guy - I started him a while ago. I ran out of twine when I was working on the thatch roof, otherwise my longhouse is finished!

Here’s the other houses I’ve been working on - I’ve run out of twine and I’m waiting for my local Lowe’s to get it back in stock before I complete them.

And finally...the other marshes that I’ve been working on! I’m experimenting with color palettes to see what I like, looking to try and build some more grimdark feeing pieces. Something that screams “abandon all hope ye who enter here!”

Those houses look excellent. How many bits of scenery are you aiming for? The whole 8th scenery chart?

I'm so glad to see you back Ryryak!
Loving the terrain! You'll have to do a tutorial on how you did that thatched roof! It looks quite impressive!
The marchlands look great too! I'm assuming you used insulation board? If you're going for grimdark, I like the second one you've done there. Less cheer in it. You might even want to add in some tall, dead grass along the water edge. Drill a small hole, cut the bristles off an old, done brush, and glue them in the hole at various lengths. Other than pumping in some dried ice, I think you've got it!
I love seeing your terrain develop! I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread!

I want there to be plenty of available scenery, and something for every type of terrain available. These marshes are a test bed for a new river concept I’m working on as well for my Mordheim table. If that goes well I’ll attempt a lake complete with lake-town boardwalk.

If you're going for grimdark, I like the second one you've done there. Thanks! If you google how to make thatch roof terrain you’ll come across a video by The Crafting Muse. It’s basically her method. I agree they look nice I’m just bummed I can get these off my “to-do” pile and into the garage for the table! Stupid Lowe’s and it being summer and everyone bought out my twine... I agree about the second one being the most grimdark. I did dried reeds on a couple of the pieces, problem is I ran out of cheap brushes to chop up and couldn’t do all of them! This one is one of the ones that didn’t get done. Truth be told I was also worried about storage- I can’t stack them with the dried grass sticking way up above the piece. That’s one I’m still working on solving. But yes, when I do my second batch of marshes (they’ll be more involved with dead stumps, mushrooms, rotten logs, leaf fall, etc...) I think I’ll stick to yellows, browns, and more muted greens. These ones are more to learn about pouring resin (never done it before) and what colors/techniques work and don’t work. And yes, these pieces were made from insulation board utilizing a dull box knife, a proxxon hot-wire table cutter, and a hot wire cutter. Here’s what’s next...

Have you tried looking for twine at Hobby Lobby? My wife bought a HUGE roll of it there to decorate her classroom in a Cowboy theme one year. Took us forever to go through all of it. But we eventually did.
You have a really good point about the stacking issue. Maybe a storage system like an office paper tray stacking system might work? Really depends on each person's situation, I suppose. Just throwing ideas your way. 😊

Problem is I’ve already gone through a few hundred feet of twine (they’re packed pretty tight) I wanted to use the same stuff to make sure the color matched. I have some small round “pillars” amongst that pile of blue foam I’m thinking I could use those as spacers in between the marshes to keep the reeds from getting damaged - failing that I’ll buy/build some kind of shelving system that will allow them to be stacked. Got a base coat on the pieces today - gotta go back and do touch ups but I’m hoping these will be done by next weekend. I really want to get back to painting models

Very nice. You could also add half a skeleton representing the corpse of a poor individual having died whilst clawing it’s way out.

Wow. That's great looking stuff. I feel your pain with the storage. Strategically shaped hills or stone columns as spacers are a good idea.
