Hi all,
It's taken a while to get this going due to holidays (even though I didn't go anywhere!), decorating & eating myself in to oblivion!
We had our game, Its was a cold & sunny spring day in South Wales (we're used to the cold part) - we played in the garden with some beers.
All covid restrictions were in place, other than we had a friend there who played the Dark Elves afterwards with his Ogres.
I figured as he'd been double vaccinated & we were all socially distanced outside, all would be well. 14 days later, I was right!
Scenario & Magic
Pitched Battle, we rolled this as the scenario - which was welcome as it was our first game after a long while.
I took High Magic, as I wanted to be more fluffy - And as such my opponent took Dark Magic. He later said it was rubbish, but he complains & hates everything, so I ignored him.
Deployment
I have a lot of chaff & didn't really have a lot of room in the end. I tried to focus on the vanguards in order to stop his 2 Dark Rider units from getting up close and personal.
My Shadow Warriors & Alith Anar were going to harass the Sorceress & the Darkshards on my left flank (in his deployment zone), but a bit of psychology from my opponent reminded me of the 2D6 S5 signature spell.
So I deployed them on my right Flank in his deployment zone, 12" away from his only Bolt Thrower...
Just outside my Deployment Zone was a Wyrding Pool, & outside my opponent's was a Venom Thicket. Other Magical Terrain was on the board, but didn't come in to play.
Dark Elves T1
The bad guys strike first, moving his 2 Dark Riders right up in my grill.
Darkshards in the Venom Thicket, with Hydra bodyguard. Everything else moves up too.
Magic devastates my 15 Archers on my left flank, they hold their nerve though, thanks to Valor of Ages.
The Dark Magic signature picks off a Reaver unit nearby. The Dark riders pepper the Reaver unit in front of them down to 2.
Dark Shards shoot the Archers but the dame is minimal. The Bolt Thrower fires a volley shot in to the Shadow Warriors (-2 to hit!) & manages to kill 1.
High Elf Turn 1
Charge! Alith Anar & his band of merry men charge in to the Reaper Bolt Thrower & Alith easily crushes his enemies on his own with swift ease.
The Phoenix, a Great Owl & the Archmage/Dragon fly up next to Malus' Cold One Knights, out of sight.
The Chariots just reposition, as does the Hero on Eagle (actually a Flying Lion...).
The Reavers that were down to 2 quickly run in front of the Witches & in front of Malus' unit, an ignoble sacrifice.
The Reaver unit that took 1 wound repositioned & drank from the Wyrding Well, regaining 2D6 wounds! or in this case, 1.
The Remaining Great Owl & Reaver unit sneak past the Dark Riders to confront the Sorceress.
The Archmage casts Soul Quench for 0 gain, but casts Flames of the Phoenix on the witch elves with Irresistable force, & takes no wounds himself bargain!
12 Witches burn. Shooting isn't very good, I kill a Cold One Knight & I whittle down the Darkshards - but they're right in front of that Wyrding Well!
Dark Elf Turn 2
A Dark Rider unit smashes in to the Reavers by the well, the other in to the Tiranoc Chariot.
The chariot is easily slaughtered, the reavers not so easily killed it seems!
The Witches crash in to the 2 sacrificial horsemen, & Malus' Cold Ones turn to face the Phoenix (And Alith Anar).
The Darkshards wander up to the Wyrding well & take some DTs for the pleasure - They drink the liquid & gain Stupidity & Unbreakable... Not quite what was planned!
Magic doesn't do anything as the Sorceress tries to dispel the Flames, but fails to do so - another 8 Witches turn crispy.
With no shooting it's on to the High Elf Turn...
High Elf Turn 2
With the newly stupefied Dark Shards, the Flying-Lion Rider crashes in to them, she issues a challenge - & it took the stomp of the Hero's beast to finish her off! He overruns in to the Hydra...
Alith Anar Dances out of sight of the Cold ones - as does the Dragon/Phoenix, the latter of whom swoops over the Witches & whittles more away, landing behind them.
The Reavers & the Dark Riders continue to fight both are down to 2 models a piece.
No magic of any consequence happens, so the Flames Spell is finally dispelled. Shooting whittles some more Cold ones/Witches.
Here is where the pictures stop & things get a bit blurry...
But essentially the witches never fight anything unless I want them to, The Hydra loses by 1 & is chased down.
The 2 Reavers & Dark Riders kill each other.
The cold ones are whittled to 2, & the Malus charges in to the Archers on my right flank, killing them all with supreme ease.
The BSB on Cold One has also charged in to the Bolt Thrower, murdering those who occupied it.
The BSB now standing by alone is then charged by a Tiranoc Chariot, who crushes him to death.
My Archmage casts Flames of the Phoenix Irresistibly (again), & this time falls down a hole!
I ended up winning by 700 odd points.
My friend then had a hissyfit (nothing unusual), complaining that my list wasn't very "High Elfy".
But we drank in to the late evening, & he got to smash some ogres with his witches, so got what he wanted in the end!
It was good to dust off the High Elves, I haven't really used them for about 4yrs, so was fun
