Empire vs. Dwarfs :: first battle in a long time

A long time gaming friend is in town this weekend. We made it a point to get our armies on the table and fight a battle. I used my Empire as that is what I've painted the most recently. My opponent only plays Dwarfs. So that was our match up.
3000 points per side.

The scenario was "Battle for the Pass".
I planned to take lots of pictures. But that quickly failed to happen as the battle proceeded. Here are the opening battle lines.

Highlights
Conclusion
We didn't bother with formal victory points. But I had more points in units remaining on the table at the end of turn six (demigryphs and spearmen were basically untouched). So we judged it a narrow victory for the Empire.
It was great to get the models on the table again. For sure we were forgetting rules here and there. But we both had a good time.

Highlights
- First two turns both sides failed to do much in the shooting phase and all my wizard's spells were blocked.
- Turn three, Greatswords (with Wizard lord & BSB) were double charged by Ironbreakers & longbeards. Detachments countercharged, to the front of dwarf units (not flanking) Dwarf dice were on fire. My guys ran and were wiped out. (things are looking bad)
- Demigryph knights charged Dwarf warriors. Broke and wiped them after two turns.
- Inner circle knights charged Hammerers. Broke and wiped them after two turns.
- Swordsmen charged Slayers with support from militia but were broken and wiped out.
- My shooting finally came alive turn four and five. Rocket battery wiped out Slayers. Hellblaster and cannon killed all but two ironbreakers.
- Demigryphs and inner circle knights got into the dwarf back field and took out warmachines, handgunners, and quarrellers
- Longbeards got into my back field and took out a cannon, a hellblaster, and handgunners
- Dwarf Lord and two ironbreakers charged Spearmen. But got wiped out with lucky dice rolling.
