Here's my first non-Warhammer models in years - 15 Blackroot Vale Archers, including Duinhir, for Lord of the Rings: I was going to move onto Swan Knights of Dol Amroth next, but it turns out I haven't primed Prince Imrahil, so instead I picked up a Mierce Verminlord, Mierce Varghulf, and my Forge World Carmine Dragon. I should get the first two finished easily this month, but probably not the dragon. They look amazing! I love Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game, I think it's my favorite game system that GW has ever made. It's such a fun game to play. I hosted and organized an 8-player Battle Companies map campaign this past winter and everyone had a blast! We had: Minas Tirith Mirkwood Elves Rohan Dwarven Holds Denizens of Mirkwood Moria Goblins Warg Riders Isengard Everyone had a blast and we're hoping to start another campaign this fall. Keep it up! I want to see more Middle Earth!

Thanks! There will definitely be more - I've had the models for 10+ years and vowed to get some Middle Earth models painted this year. After Swan Knights I'll definitely get some elves done (Mirkwood or Rivendell ones). I will admit I've only played the game the once though, which was around the time I bought the models. It was fun, but I got caught up in focusing on WFB so never played again.

Mierce Varghulf (or "Thrada, Cavern Nihtbat" as they call it) complete: That's probably the last model I'll complete this month, as my Carmine Dragon will take a while longer.

Dangit, missed out on this one almost until it was too late! Almost...
In terms of my ongoing "paint one Ogre per week"-project I am not only on track, but actually far ahead of schedule. Due to the weather being perfect for it, I managed to get all previously finished models finally varnished - and it is 29 of them already, with it only being week #21 of the year by now! So almost two months ahead of plan.
I hope to get two more Ogres done in May, on top of three of them finished so far. I already managed to get two Tyranids done (in anticipation of 10th edition 40K), maybe some more can get done there as well. There will probably be something random on top, just to get me over ten models for the month, another "project" for this year going well so far.

Reinforcements for the herd of Khazbar the Magnificent! I built these ones with shields as I’ve been using the triple crown comp quite a bit recently and wanted to try them combined with free marks but utilising tzeentch so they get a 5+ parry and as a bunker. They were painted as the same colours as my smaller Gor unit, and although the other 20 have AHW having shields on the first 2 ranks easily denotes to your opponent what the unit is armed with. What really hurt was having to paint them not using contrast in order to match the other Gor!

Keeping with my theme of not doing what I planned on doing this month: a Bone Giant. Really like this pose (it is just an unfortunate angle that makes it seem he is laughing really hard, from any other angle he looks like he means business). No frills on the sculpt which suits the Reaper Bones material with its imperfections and often mushy details.

And probably my final unit for the month, 10 more Ungor raiders. Again, painted without contrast. With these complete, all I have left to paint* for the herd is my Minotaurs and the special character Morghur * until I inevitably buy more of course!

I'm not quite done with Valten just yet, as promised, but I had a hankerin' to work on this Stank. I only ever halfway painted it, so I wanted to finish it off and put it on a proper base. Soooo...here it is.

Amazing work, everyone! Here is my offering for May: Some scenery, some squats, and some Albionite shieldmaidens. It's been a productive month, at least by my standards: The scenery was especially quick: paint dark grey, and then drybrush away!

It's an effective scenery system. I hit my target this month Although I'm not as positive about the results... I can't translate the minds eye through the brush yet! But definitely skills are improving and the overall look of my collection is too. The 50 arrer boys (49 in photo as I broke one base as I was arranging them) were washed in a very thinned down scale75 red leather. Makes them look really dirty so I didn't do the usual rusty weapons that I have been doing of late. It's more a departure than a change of style My 3 banners showed my beginner skills. I painted the night goblin banner (supposed to be a scarecrow on fire) first, and it showed my ambition to skill ratio... The two orcs were much safer designs on paper. But now I think I'll give the glow up to the 3 banner bearers... See if I can squeeze them in today. Glow up of the 3 standard bearers. I really liked how the skull came out. Speed paints are my friend

Scenery ready for battle. 3 separate pieces so can have different battlefield setups.
