This was our Summer Game 2023, played on August 6th. As always, we met in this house in a small town somewhere in the Old World…
Scenario: Battle Royale Army Points: 1800 per player Armies: Dwarfs vs. Empire vs. Gnoblar Hordes vs. High Elves Note that the scenario involves combined phases (i.e. everyone does their movement phase first, then everyone does their magic phase, etc.; at the end there is then a combined close combat phase for all players). We also allowed shooting into close combat combat if it's close combat that doesn't involve your own units, just other players' units. We also allowed to place objectives within 12” of the edge, which isn't allowed by the scenario rules (actually, this misplacement of an objective was a mistake which we legalized after realizing it). Before the Battle
The Empire rolls lowest and must take the center deployment zone. The High Elves choose a deployment zone at the edge of the board that is very close to three objective tokens. Dwarfs and Gnoblars choose deployment zones adjacent to those of the High Elves.
Turn 1
A High Elf regiment of White Lions with their general and army standard bearer charges the Imperial Steam Tank. There is an objective near the Steam Tank. Five High Elf Reavers charge the Imperial general, a Battle Wizard Lord on Pegasus.
Dwarfs advance in the first turn (no enemy contact). Six Gnoblar River Trolls charge five High Elf Reavers.
Gnoblar reserves enter the battlefield (Leader-Eater, the ASB and a regiment of 66 Gnoblars) The Imperial Fire Wizard slays three High Elf Reavers with a fireball. However, the miscast injures him himself, in addition to killing two models from the archer unit he has joined. A Gnoblar Wizard uses the Searing Doom spell to destroy a High Elf Lion Chariot. The Imperial Cannon destroys a Dwarven Gyrobomber. The High Elf Bolt Throwers kills two Imperial Knights. High Elf Archers kill three Gnoblar Lucky Gits. In the close combat phase, the Gnoblar River Trolls kill the Reavers with no losses of their own. The Imperial Wizard on Pegasus kills a Reaver, taking no wounds himself. He still loses close combat, but doesn't break. The steam tank loses one wound in close combat and kills two White Lions. The High Elves win, but the Steam Tank is unbreakable.

Yes, that Babenhausen...
Turn 2
A horde of Imperial Halberdiers with a Warrior Priest and the ASB charge the High Elves' White Lions to come to the aid of the Steam Tank. Five Imperial Demigryph Knights charge a Dwarf Gyrocopter, moving over a low wall and through a forest (both times no casualties from dangerous terrain). Nearby, in the forest, there is another objective marker. Three Knights of the Empire attack the four High Elf Reavers to come to the aid of their general. The High Elves send two more Reavers and a Mage into the same close combat. A unit of Dwarf Warriors charges the Demigryph Knights in the flank. A Gyrocopter charges the Imperial Cannon in the big house. Six Gnoblar River Trolls charge a Giant Eagle from the High Elves army. A Gyrocopter flies over the close combat "Reavers – Imperial Wizard on Pegasus - Imperial Knights" and drops bombs. He kills two High Elf Reavers and an Imperial Knight. 24 Gnoblar Manbiters, which have the Ambusher special rule, appear behind the Dwarf Warriors that just attacked the Demigryph Knights. A regiment of 66 Gnoblars with their general (the special character Leader-Eater) and ASB loses 16 models to dangerous terrain tests when crossing a swamp, both characters are wounded. Not much happens in the magic phase... the Imperial Steam Tank suffers a wound from the Gnoblar's Searing Doom spell, some wizards cast various augment and hex spells. High Elf Archers kill two Gnoblar Lucky Gits with their shooting. A Gyrocopter fires into the close combat "Reavers – Imperial Wizard on Pegasus - Imperial Knights", wounding the Wizard once, kills an Imperial Knight and a High Elf Reaver. As a result, one of the two Reaver units (the one with the Mage) is no longer in close combat. The Dwarf Flame Cannon fires at the Gnoblar Manbiters, killing 10 models. No panic test, though, since the Manbiters have the Freny rule. In close combat, the six River Trolls kill the Great Eagle and then overrun into a High Elf Bolt Thrower. The Gyrocopter and the Imperial Cannon inside the building cannot wound each other, the combat is a draw. In the close combat between remaining Imperial Knight and his general (Battle Wizard Lords on Pegasus) and the High Elf Reavers, there are no casualties. The High Elves narrowly win the fight because of their musician, the Wizard breaks and flees. However, the last Imperial Knight holds (thus preventing a pursuit of the Wizard). In the big combat of the High Elf White Lions (with general and army standard bearer) against the Imperial Steam Tank and the horde of Halberdiers (with Warrior Priest and ASB), with the horde having combat skill -1 due to a hex spell, 10 White Lions and the Halberdier champion die, the Steam Tank loses 2 wounds. The High Elves lose the battle but do not break. In the fight of the Dwarf Warriors and the Gyrocopter against the Demigryph Knights, the Gyrocopter loses one wound and two Dwarf Warriors die; the Demigryphs lose nothing. The Dwarfs lose the battle, but neither the Warriors nor the Gyrocopter break.
(Actually, the Bolt Thrower that can been seen on the right is on the top of the hill, but the Trolls needed space there, so we temporarily placed it somewhere else)

Turn 3 The fleeing Empire general on Pegasus is unable to rally. The Imperial Archers with the Fire Wizard who joined them retreat to an empty little house. The High Elf Reavers, no longer engaged in close combat with the remaining Imperial Knight, charge that Knight again. The Knight is now in combat with two different Reaver units (front and flank). A different Gyrocopter than the one in the last turn charges the Imperial Cannon in the big house. Dwarf Longbeards attempt a charge the Demigyphs, but fail. A unit of Dwarf Ironbreakers with their general and ASB moves into a swamp to claim the objective marker there. They stay there until the end of the game (aside from the fact that the ASB later leaves the unit), keeping that objective marker. A Gyrocopter drops bombs on the Imperial general on Pegasus, taking one wound from him. A second Gyrocopter does the same, killing the Imperial general (the Wizard Lord). The Gnoblar Manbiters charge into the back of the Dwarf Warriors who are in close combat with the Demigryph Knights. The big Gnoblar regiment with Leader-Eater (general) and ASB fails its Animosity test, causing Leader-Eater to kill 8 models due to his special rule. Four other models die from failed terrain tests while marching through the swamp. That regiment has already lost 28 models (and 2 wounds from the characters) without any enemy action. High Elf Archers kill 9 Boglars with their shooting, a Bolt Thrower kills another. But the Boglars pass their panic test. (Originally they were 10 Boglars, but for being in the river the last two turns they got additional models, so the unit is still there.) The Dwarf Flame Cannon kills a High Elf Great Eagle. In close combat, the six River Trolls of the Gnoblar army destroy the High Elf Bolt Thrower without any losses of their own. The Gyrocopter and the Imperial cannon fail to wound each other, the combat is a draw. Big 3-way battle (near the objective marker in forest): Gnoblar Manbiters vs. Dwarf Warriors & Gyrocopter vs. Imperial Demigryph Knights… the Demigryph Knights destroy the Gyrocopter and kill two Dwarfs; the Gnoblars kill 5 Dwarfs; the Dwarfs kill 1 Gnoblar. The Dwarf Warriors break, but are not caught by the Manbiters (the Demigryphs reform). Due to terrain tests (= fleeing through an enemy unit), the Dwarfs lose 3 more models. Battle of the White Lions against the Halberdier horde and the Steam Tank: The Imperial Army Standard Bearer dies, the Warrior Priest loses 1 wound, the Steam Tank loses 3 wounds. 3 White Lions die. The result is a draw. Two units of High Elf Reavers (with Mage) against a single Imperial Knight: The Knight is slain.

Cool battle. Nice to see Leader-Eater out there!

Thanks, Kevin.
That's the third time I play the Gnoblar army (and Leader-Eater). The first time was against a Halfling army (I posted that battle report some time ago), the second time was against the Ogres (which the Gnoblars won - it was one of the most unexpected comebacks ever!).

Turn 4 The Imperial Demigryph Knights charge the Gnoblar Manbiters. Using the Steam Engine to grind foes, the Steam Tank kills 5 White Lions in the movement phase. As a result, the White Lion regiment is destroyed, only the characters (general and army standard bearer) are still there. The High Elf Archers charge the Gnoblar River Trolls. (These Archers were guarding an objective marker – they decided to charge before the Trolls would charge them in the Gnoblar part of the combined movement phase.) A Gyrocopter charges the Imperial Cannon in the house once again. The fleeing Dwarf Warriors rally. The big Gnoblar regiment with Leader-Eater and the ASB charge the Steam Tan (which is still in close combat with the High Elf characters, which still are in combat with the Halberdiers). While crossing the river (= necrotic ooze), the Gnoblars’ Pigback Riders and the Scrap Launcher lose 3 models and 3 wounds, respectively. Two Gnoblar Lucky Gits are killed by High Elf Reavers' shooting. The Dwarf Flame Cannon fires into the close combat of the Gnoblar Manbiters and Demigryph Knights. 7 Manbiters die, a Demigryph Knigt loses 1 wound. In the close combat of the High Elf Archers (boosted by Wyssan's Wildform) against the River Trolls, the Trolls take 4 wounds (losing 1 model). 7 Elves die, they break and flee from the battlefield. As a result, the Gnoblar army controls that objective marker now. Grand three-way combat: the Gnoblar Regiment with Leader-Eater (General) and Army Standard Bearer vs. the Steam Tank & Imperial Halberdier Horde with Warrior Priest vs. High Elf Characters (General & Army Standard Bearer). The High Elves kill one Halberdier; the Halberdiers slay the High Elf ASB; Leader-Eater inflicts one wound on the Steam Tank. The Gnoblars win, but the Tank is unbreakable. The Empire wins against the High Elves; only the general is left, who breaks and flees and but isn't caught by the Halberdiers. The Gyrocopter and the Imperial cannon fail to wound each other, the combat is a draw. The Demigryph Knights slay the Gnoblar Manbiters without any losses of their own.

Turn 5Using the Steam Engine to grind foes, the Steam Tank kills 7 Gnoblars (Leader-Eater's regiment) in the movement phase. The Demigryph Knights charge the Longbeards. The Dwarf Warriors and a Gyrocopter charge the Demigryph Knights to help the Longbeards. The Dwarf army standard bearer leaves the Ironbreaker unit in the swamp and charges the Imperial cannon in the big house. The Gnoblar Lucky Gits charge the last remaining High Elf Bolt Thrower. The Imperial Fire Wizard, who is in the small house with the Archers, kills the general of the High Elves, who is traveling alone, with a fireball. The Imperial Archers in the house shoot at the High Elf unit which consists only of a Mage and a Reaver. They kill the Reaver. The Lucky Gits destroy the Bolt Thrower in close combat without any losses. In the battle of the Demigryph Knights against the Longbeards, the Gyrocopter and Dwarf Warriors, three Longbeards and one Dwarf Warrior die, the Demigryphs have no casualties. The Empire wins the battle. The Dwarf Warriors and the Longbeards break, but the Gyrocopter holds, preventing the pursuit of the two other Dwarf units. No one is wounded in the house battle of the Dwarf ASB against the Imperial Cannon (draw). In the battle of Leader-Eater, the Army Standard Bearer and the big Gnoblar regiment against the Steam Tank, no one is wounded. The Gnoblars win the fight, but the Tank is unbreakable.

Turn 6 The Steam Tank kills 2 models of the large Gnoblar regiment in the movement phase (grinding again). The Dwarf Army Standard Bearer charges the Imperial Cannon in the big house again. The Dwarf Warriors and the Longbeards rally. The Gnoblar Lucky Gits charge a Gyrocopter (near an objective and the Halberdier horde), but no close combat occurs because the Empire's Wizard shoots a fireball into this close combat, killing 1 Gnoblar and the Gyrocopter. As a result, this objective marker counts as being controlled by the Empire. The Dwarf Army Standard Bearer kills two Imperial Cannon crew members in close combat, but the Cannon does not break and holds the house. In the close combat between the Demigryph Knights and the Gyrocopter, the latter loses 1 wound. The Gyrocopter breaks and is caught while fleeing. The objective marker in the forest is controlled by both the Empire and the Dwarfs, as the Demigryph Knights' pursuit gets them into contact with the marker, but the marker is “guarded” (= in contact) on the other side by another Gyrocopter (we count that as half a VP for each of the two armies). In the fight of Leader-Eater and his Gnoblars against the Steam Tank, the Tank loses 1 wound, one Gnoblar is killed. The Tank survives the game with only one wound left. (BTW, if you want to know what the Scrap Launcher did in this battle… nothing. Always missed and rolled a misfire once.) The EndThe game ends... and as you know, you get 1 VP for each objective marker you control, 1 VP for each enemy general killed, and 1 VP for your own general surviving the game. The Dwarfs share control of the objective marker in the forest with the Empire, they control the objective marker in the swamp, they killed the Imperial general, and their own general is still on the battlefield. The Empire shares control of the objective marker in forest with the Dwarfs, they control the objective marker near the small house and the Steam Tank, they killed the High Elf general, but they also lost their own general. The Gnoblars control the objective marker in the corner behind the hill (which they took from the High Elves), and their general is still on the battlefield. The High Elves control nothing, and they lost their general. Final score:Dwarfs 3.5 Empire 2.5 Gnoblar Hordes 2 High Elves 0 Victory for the Dwarfs!
That's it. I hope you enjoyed it.

This looks like a fun game. I like the approach to have combined phases. Totally overlooked this scenarios special rule set.

IS the house on the battlefield (the terrain piece) painted to be like the house the game it's being played in?
Absolutely brilliant. The game also looks like a lot of fun!

IS the house on the battlefield (the terrain piece) painted to be like the house the game it's being played in? Hehe, there is indeed some resemblance. But I painted the miniature house a few years ago. The real house, however, was painted a few weeks ago, and before that, the wooden beams were brown, not red.
