The quarreller contingent of Karak Silvertop is complete. 16 reinforcements takes them up to 60 in total. Perhaps a little over kill but it allows me to take an all quarreller core (horde of 40 and two units of 10 spring to mind!) The original 40 have now been revisited to give them all washes which has improved them no end and they are now inline with the latest editions. My current dwarf army is now close to completion Abiut all I have left is the following to complete: 40 GW warriors 10 Long Drong Slayers 1 Bolt Thrower 10 or so classic 3rd edition metal miniatures 10 or so various characters ranging from Queen Helga to engineers, runesmiths and thanes/lords Thorgrim (newer version)

What an amazing unit! Makes love 8ed even more. How come people want to field small units when there is this beaut of hordes?

That is one very impressive unit! But why stop at 60? You're so close to 100!

I felt inspired by Maleagant's post about back stories, to finally try and sketch out some of my thoughts about the entrance to Karak Silvertop. The first picture is an idea of the main entrance. The second gives more detail on the workings. Both are rough sketches and pretty much stretch my natural artistic ability to the limit (I could probably dig out a picture of when I first started playing warhammer 30+ years ago and there would be little difference 🤦♂️)! There is a large dwarf made bridge over a very deep chasm leading to the larger of the twin peaks shown on the Karak banners (the Silverpeak). The cliff face at the end of the bridge has been carved with statues of the ancestor gods. Above these are two odd looking symmetrical openings. Off to the side is a cliff overhang. The mountain has been carved into a natural gate house with gun ports overlooking the bridge approach and Gate doors opening onto the bridge. The placement making it difficult for any opposing army to get a natural run up at the gates. The hold has a very unique defensive feature. The bridge can drop away almost flat to the mountain, presenting an impenetrable chasm and thus leaving the main gate and hold impervious to normal assault. The two odd symmetrical holes in the cliff are where the counterweights protrude from the cliff face. The bridge is pulled back into place using a system of pulleys and chains, powered by an underground river that can be diverted using sluice gates to turn a number of water wheels. This is part of an intricate system that is used to work much of the holds mechanical equipment and was built with the help of engineers from Zhufbar

Oh, man. That really gets my architect juices flowing! I love the concept! Needs some external walls (fortified barriers of some sort) to delay the advance of enemies, giving the Dwarf defenders time to gather within their hold and retract the bridge. Also needs cannons, organ guns, etc encased withing the walls of the rock. The best defences include a good deal of offense!

I had thoughts on that and the peak opposite the bridge with the two paths either side would be the natural site for a defensible outpost. I’ll sketch a top down representation of this as that’s one area where I feel more confident in my drawing skills 😁

What with the ever present nightmare of work currently, these guys have taken far longer than they should have done. I realise there's no basing done on them but for the minute that's how they are going to stay. Classic equivalent of goblin green (and after taking the photos I noticed one set of horns weren't painted and quickly did those . As with the last few units completed, i've deliberately added in extra musicians and standards to both breakup the monoposes and to allow it to be fielded in several smaller units. The eagle eyed will also note they match the colour scheme of the sword and board dwarves (these are the primary hold colours), except they are a mirror match to slightly distinguish them.
