So,
Been a few weeks... Well a couple more gamers under my belt but still the same result, got my ass handed to me. I admit though I'm missing my artillery and flyers. Now I can get flyers here but not the artillery so it was suggested that I get some Salamanders or Razordons. Now I know from previous posters Salamanders were the nuts in previous editions - are they still? To be honest I don't see much of a difference in either of these selections, in face the Razordons being quick to fire and 15 points cheaper are the front runners for me. The instinctive defence I don't really see as a problem, at least they WILL shoot rather than CAN'T shoot.
Flyers, Terradons and Ripperdactyls, think the Rippers get the vote but would you take Terradons over Rippers and if so, why?

In terms of hunting packs, it is an easy decision. Salamanders are amazing! Razordons can be okay (I sometimes like to field a large unit of 5 or 6 alongside a High Magic Slann), but their shooting attack doesn't bring anything particularly novel to a Lizardmen force. You can achieve similar results with skinks, and they come out of core. Salamanders on the other hand, offer you something that can't be replicated elsewhere throughout the army. Salamanders are the PERFECT counter to large hoard units, where they can often make up their points cost with a single well placed flame template. I virtually never create an all comers list without at least 2 salamanders.
I didn't submit a vote in regards to the flyers, because I feel that they are very different units that serve different functions. Offensively, Rippers are far superior and they excel at taking out small-medium targets that strike after them (because they are a glass-hammer). They are also great at character assassinations. However, because of their frenzy rule, they can't fulfill the roles that Terradons can. Namely they can't bait and flee or control the board. Also, they can easily be pulled out of position by a forced frenzy charge. So which you choose comes down to what role you need filled in your army as well as your personal playstyle.
On a side note, of the 4 units you listed, Salamanders are the only ones that I personally view as an auto-include. The others can be useful, but simply don't compare to Salamanders.

Definitely get the Salamanders. They shoot flame templates and can wipe out some massed infantry. If you need to do some strong shots to one model (monster, etc) then you can equip your Stegadons with bolt throwers.
As for the flyers, I give the edge to the Rippers. They are a bit of a glass Cannon though. Select your target (with your frog Mark) and fly up the side to get a flank our rear charge off). The Terradons would be better if they got more than one Drop Rocks attack, but it simply doesn't have enough of an impact to make much of a difference. In my last game I took a unit of 3 Terradons to harass and when they dropped rocks on a unit of Halberdiers, they only killed 3. Pretty sad. After that, they can shoot their Fireleech Bolas, but that's only 3 shots and they aren't really meant to be a close combat unit, so you don't want them there either. (They're a little better if you take their special character). Rippers on the other hand, are meant for close combat.

Yep I'm in your corner with this, though one of our better players at the club fields salamanders and terradons exclusively. This maybe just because he doesn't have the other models

Salamanders.
When in doubt burn everything. With fire. (also they're unique in that they use a template and are a great way to thin out hordes)
Not sure how I rate the flying units. They both have their own niche that they fill and are used for different things. Personally my lizardmen make use of the Ripperdactyls for the ability to decently threaten warmachines and other chaff units.
