I decided to flip through an old WD this morning, issue 206 (March 1997). There was an article describing the Lizardmen, a battle report between O&G and Skaven, a brief over view of the Warhammer world, a scenario for the Battle of Hel Fenn (an Empire and Dwarf alliance vs the Undead Legions of Manfred von Carstein), and a huge games day table displaying an absolutely massive battle between Lizardmen and Bretonnia. All cool stuff. The back cover had this photo of the new Lizardmen army (5th had recently been release) and just loved the whole imagery of this photo. The 5th ed Slann model was always one of my favs. Anyway, just wanted to share...

at least part of the appeal has got to be all that custom terrain. While I really like the GW plastic terrain, they ended up putting that stuff into every single picture later on. it got old.

I've always loved that old Slaan model. Reminds me of the dwarf Throne of Power

Custom terrain is more interesting because it is unique. It's much less appealing when everyone has the exact same tree and the exact same watchtower (even though they are great kits).

Yeah, custom terrain really gets your brain juices flowing. There's nothing quite like that tingle you get when you see something that looks really good and you think, "I can do that!"
