I am trying to make an Ogre list of 2000 points. Is it worth putting any in horde units or is it a wast of points.

You don't really have the numbers to make use of the horde rule.

You can do 18 models and get a horde with ogres IiRC. Pretty effective.

For what it's worth, I play a Troll army and I've found they work best in units of 8 (2 ranks of 4). I have played the big 18-strong unit, but your opponent will do their best to avoid it the whole game and if you do lose the unit you're probably losing the game. Smaller units 8-10 strong hit nearly as hard and are more effect because you'll have more units. Two units of 9 Monstrous Infantry are better in most situations that one unit of 18.

Jarett Messing used to run a brick of 18 - with the cheap chariot mounted cannons, sabertooths and some gut/fire magic did a good job clearing chaff to let it have full range - also could project enough force with the list he didn't have to get into combat. I played him at a Crossroads GT with it I was running Khorne Daemons. I think the final combat resolution was 27 wounds to 24 wounds in the final round of the game. I think I won by a hair but just a hair.

At 2000, points, it would be better to spread your units out a bit. It'll give you so many more options. At units of 10, you can still potentially have a hard, hitting bus that would be 4 wide x 4 deep, if you put a Tyrant in the front row with the Full Command, and your BSB and Caster in the second row. That will still leave you enough for another 8-Ogre unit.

Thank you. That's been a big help.

Having also delved into the troll horde I can tell you that hordes of Monstrous Infantry are a lot of fun, but at 2000 points you won't have a lot of room for anything else. I would personally bring multiple smaller units and wait until you start playing larger games before bringing those hordes of ogres!

Was it like a multicombat which makes sense given the huge wounds...? I'm picturing an Ogre horde vs a Bloodletter horde in my head just hacking into each other.

grandmasterwang I don't entirely remember. I think ironguts but a lot of the damage output was from the tyrant, BSB and butcher. My khorne list was usually MSU with a blood thirster and blocks of ten or so bloodletters, 5's of fleshhounds two skull cannons and some harpies. Now that I think about it more I actually think it might have been my chaos warriors where I usually ran 2 bricks of 20 warriors (one banner of rage with halberds), a handful of chariots, hound chaff and a 2+/3++ or 4++ sorcerer lord on foot. With soulblight earmarked for the key combat phases. I name dropped Jarrett because he was in Kevin's club and was one of the top players in 7th/8th in the NE US
