Wood elf glade Captain, by default he has a long bow, now if I purchase the bow of Loren (it cannot fire enchanted arrows) now if I purchase the hail of doom arrow does this break the magic weapon rule?
Technically he carries two bows.

Normal longbow to fire hail of doom, bow of Loren to fire normal mundane arrows. Just fudging the lines about using a mundane bow while having a magical one.

Greg I am pretty sure you can have two bows, and run both HoDA and BoL. Atleast I think I have seen that before I am not sure about HoDA and enchanted arrows.

I am not sure about HoDA and enchanted arrows. No, as they are two arrow types you can't. That option was never on the table so happy so far, anyone else care to weight in with any comment? Cheers Greg

I don't know...that seems like it's bending the rules a bit much. Kinda like saying, "My character is taking an additional hand weapon, so therefore, I'll give him two magic weapons, one for each hand!"

I think technically you could give him both the magic bow and the enchanted arrow. But, you would be forced to use the magic weapon over the mundane bow. And that means you never get to use the Doom Arrow (which is not a magic weapon) because it is only used instead of the mundane bow.

I’m sure we covered something similar before on this as I remembered where to look for the rules. Page 88/89 of the rulebook states if you have more than one missile weapon you can choose which to use. It also only states you have to use a ‘magical’ close combat weapon over a mundane one. Nothing about using magical missile weapons over mundane ones. RAW therefore allows you to take both a normal bow for the HODA and/or enchanted arrows and the magic bow. Whether this was an oversight is another matter but it does specifically state magical close combat weapons in the relevant sentence.
There have also been lots if discussions elsewhere on woodelf arrows and the general consensus (without GW ever having ruled on it), is although they are magical, they are not unique so you can have multiples of them on different units. As such and because they don’t take up a magic ‘slot’ (enchanted item/armour/weapon etc.) you can equip both enchanted arrows and the HODA on the same character.

I bow to knoffles (see what I did there?) and how he is actually reading the BRB.

Cheers guys, I knew if I'd have taken the bow of Loren then the HoD or any enchanted arrow was out of the question. That gem will be saved for my Waystalker.

I bow to knoffles (see what I did there?) and how he is actually reading the BRB. Absolutely agree, the problem is the BRB is huge and hard to know where to start if you don’t already know the answer That's a great thing withat this forum; together we are strong rule diggers
