They are cool models I just would choose not to pay those prices for them

So they are discontinuing these two? Do y'all think that this is an indication that they'll no longer support Empire (or whatever they're calling them now - "Free Peoples") and classic Dwarfs in favor of their new "Slayer and Steam Punk Dwarfs"? I certainly hope not. If they did that, I'd have to fully pull any and all of my support from GW.
Good thing I already have both of these sets.

I think it's more likely that they don't sell as well as other lines, and/or that the mould is knackered. They've continued the Empire aesthetic on the covers on some of their AoS novels. I'd like to pick up Manann's Blades, so I'll probably be getting the command set. I'm annoyed I missed out on the Nuln Ironsides command that disappeared a while ago (Jubal Falk etc.).
I've actually got two sets of the Dwarf Command, as the first they sent me had a damaged banner. Eventually I plan to stick the second Lord on Shieldbearers.

Well a word of warning with the Manann's Blades Musician. He has a bell attached to his back and it connects rather funky. I'd check it out as soon as you get them in and make sure that it's in good order.

I quite like the Dwarfs - but I do not play them, since I have a strictly monogamous relationship with the Empire. Not impressed with Mannan's Blades, though. Ceterum censeo what Horace said.

Thanks for the heads up sedge. I was planning on getting the Bloodbowl Bugman model so you gave me an excuse to buy the Mann models. I can't justify the dwarves as I don't like the sculpts enough to justify that price.

I really don't either. I've only EVER seen 2 or 3 games of it. And that was right after it came out.
From my understanding, when they got the rights to use LotR characters, they signed into a contract that forced them to produce so many minis each year. Maybe that's still going on, but it does seem like an awfully long time to have to do that.
Maybe there just some HUGE underground movement that supports it.

I heard that as well but I assumed that ended long ago and they had a new deal that covered those horrible hobbit movies.
I've never actually seen a game in real life and the warseer section for lotr used to be a ghost town.

LoTR was massive for Games Workshop when the original trilogy came out. Even now, while it's got a relatively small following, that's of really dedicated and well-organised fans. They kept the game going even after GW abandoned it around 2013-4, and the strength of that plus the fact that Adam Troke in GW is a massive LoTR fan got the game revived as part of Forge World's specialist games.
That success is what gives me hope that perhaps one day old-world ranked wargaming may be revived as part of the specialist games range.

It is really cool to see the support for specialist games around again. I quite like the look of the Cawdor gang. GW really is doing a lot of things right these days. They just need to have another think about their pricing and revive WFB...

I don’t think the Lotr/hobbit stuff is just about the game (though I have heard good things about the game too), I think it’s more about the collectors. Even my mum picks up the odd model as she is a massive Lotr fan and I know a number of other bloggers who’ve said the same thing about theirs (and none of them are gamers).
