Hi all,
Simple question: I was reading rulebook regarding characters joining units when the base is different size and wanted to simply confirm with an exact example: A branchwraith jpoining a unit of Eternal Guard who join to the side of the Guard, and not inside the unit. Correct? Her Hatred would not be given to the unit, but any spells she casts on her unit would include the Guards. Is this correct?

That is all correct. - If the base of the Branchwraith has not exactly the same size area of two or more models of the Eternal Guard, then, yes, it must be attached to the side. As such, she has joined the unit and is subject to all the rules of a character that has joined a unit. - The Hatred special rule does not confer from a character with that rule to the unit he is in. - Any spells that affect the unit the Branchwraith is in will affect both her and the Eternal Guards.

To hijack this thread as it is a related query. If a shaman in a units of Gor (all 25mm bases) cast transformation of Kadon and became a mountain Chimera (50*100 base), would he be placed at the edge of the unit or would he displace models to fit inside of the current unit footprint (for example, if he was at the corner of a horde of 50, would 7 of the rank and file be moved to the back of the unit to fit him in)?

Since the chimera base size has exactly the same footprint, the other models would be moved to the back.
BRB p. 493 (Transformation of Kadon): If the Wizard is in a unit, he can remain within the unit, even though he is now technically a monster (although you may have to reorder the unit a little to make him fit - see page 98 for some guidance). If he cannot be placed because there is not enough room, the spell does not work.
BRB p. 98: If a character's base is larger than one model, but has exactly the same size area (or 'footprint') as two or more models, simply displace those models to the back rank and position the character in their place.
