Having spotted a pair of Goblin Wolf Rider scouts, Aldrik the Runesmith asked the thane from Clan Dulrok to assemble his clan and neighbors to the defense of the hold in the face of the incoming green, savage menace!
2000 pt battle between Dwarfs and Orcs & Goblins can be found right....

Great report and looked like a fun game. Thank you for the comment! It was a fun game though the outcome was not what we Dawi were hoping for.

So if you had to change anything on the list, what would it be? Rune of Spellbreaking instead of balance? Units sizes of 25? (I always find that makes a surprising difference for sword and board dwarves).

Good report as always. I did think you'd struggle when I saw your list, as you didn't have any true combat heavy hitters, and the lack of chaff (especially gyros) meant it was going to be hard to get your units into the right fights for them.
That said, 12 trolls are damned hard to deal with, particularly with warmachines not performing.

Yeah I would have probably tweaked that list, I don't think the Engineer is necessary when you have gone so rune heavy on the Artillery. I would have traded out the Grudge Thrower and maybe the cannon, for a Gyro (Brimstone gun vs Trolls) and possibly a Flame Cannon since it forces Panic tests. I'm am also not a fan of Master rune of Balance, I think you are better off going Valaya or spending the points elsewhere.
I think you needed to beef up your Longbeards and Ironbreakers by a few models each and I would go GW instead of shields on the LB to maximise your hatred and provide some killing power. 10 Slayers can be handy chaff if you have no Gyros or rare points for Rangers

(I always find that makes a surprising difference for sword and board dwarves). I think the two main items would be the Rune of Spellbreaking, and add some chaff. I needed to likely re-direct the Savage Orc horde, shoot down the Trolls as much as possible and then engage them while the Horde was busy. All in all, just 2 very strong units that I didn't have the tools to deal with, I don't think. I could have even thrown the Thunderers in there to re-direct, but they got tied up due to animosity and couldn't take out the Wolf Riders. Just a bit of bad luck and not having the tools to deal!

You could had told me you thought I was dead man walking! heheh.
The gyro I have has gone to the top of the list in terms of painting as a result of this grudging.
I thought myself ready for 6-8 trolls, not 12. I had never seen 12 fielded and I didn't even think about it or prepare for it.

I do like the Rune of Accuracy + Engineer combo - hitting on 2's in short range and 3 in long is simply incredible. I didn't get great rolls on the artillery dice, unfortunately though.
Agreed ont he gyro - I didn't have it painted, but it has moved yo the top of the list now.
I've seen the MAster rune of Balance be effective, I've used to great effect in the past, but it works better when the dice are lower, and stealing a die can mean 4v3, or something like that. It doesn't help as much when the opponent rolls for 12 and 11 dice But I agree - a rune of spellbreaking or Valaya would have also been good choices.
I don't have the models to make the units bigger than 20 at the moment, unfortunately. But I like the idea of a unit of 10 slayers! Might get the Avatars of War ones (I have Ungrim model, so that could be another fun list!) But alas, limited time, so Gyrocpter, Miners and Belegar Ironhammer are on the table at the moment!

Heh, I've only played two games with Dwarves - a beardling like me has no place telling the Longbeards what to bring! Plus, I've had a similar ethos with my army - trying to bring the painted stuff (though I compromised with an unpainted Gyro because I felt it was needed).
