What are some of the best lores or combos of lores for wood elves?

For me Shadow is the best lore, probably followed by High, though I’ve seen a duel high/dark combo used quite well. I think it probably depends on what you are running in the army.

It's going to be a mainly shooting army. At least to start For me Shadow is the best lore, probably followed by High, though I’ve seen a duel high/dark combo used quite well. I think it probably depends on what you are running in the army.

I though Life was one of the most popular for them too, particularly for keeping your Treemen alive.

I mostly go with a Treeman ancient lore of life supported by either Drycha (shadows) or branchwraith. Then again, I mostly field trees as opposed to shooting.

Eventually I'll do trees. So this is nice. I have so much of them anyway. Is a tree army a viable army? I mostly go with a Treeman ancient lore of life supported by either Drycha (shadows) or branchwraith. Then again, I mostly field trees as opposed to shooting.

Depends, I’d say yes, but it might not be as strong as more avoidance / short list. It also depends on your opponent.

If I was going with a more melee orientated army I would probably go with life (and I do like the idea of a tree man ancient). I think the two reasons I favour shadow for shooting (and bear in mind I’ve not played WEs very much in 8th so treat my words with a large pinch of salt) is for 2 spells. Miasma for all the normal reasons (nerfing movement etc) and Withering to reduce toughness. With a large shooting element, I find this spell crucial to make the most of it.
It also happens that Shadow is probably my favourite all round lore as well and most of the spells are useful.

My experience with Elves in general, with some additional attention for Wood Elves:
- Shadow: one of the most popular lores and for good reason. Shadow covers most of the Elves main weaknesses. Lowering Toughness makes your shooting so much more lethal, especially Waywatchers. And who isn’t in for Strength 9 ASF Spearelves, especially a horde of them. Main downside is that the lesser spells are really not good.
- Life: another popular lore, and defenitely within Elf armies. Protects and keeps your otherwise vulnerable units alive. More popular for forest spirit heavy armies (as you’ll have more multiple wounds models).
- High: in my opinion better for High Elves. Nevertheless it’s a solid lore that has a bit of everything. Therefore tends to preform best in all around armies.
- Beasts: has uses, although I’ll stick to a Lvl 1 or 2 caster for this lore, as you really only want Wildform. Great lore for a scroll caddie.
- Dark: you’ll see Dark magic in Some lists, because it has a ton of damage. I prefer the utility of all the above lores, but I do think Dark deserves an honorable mention.
- Metal: I wasn’t gonna talk about the (in my opinion) lesser viable lores but Metal deserves a special mention. I know the lore looks appealing but don’t fool yourself. You will end up disappointed. The damage output is too low, even vs high armor armies like Dwarfs and Chaos. All above lores work better!

I found that I prefer and to be honest rather unimaginatively use Life and beasts. I find the augment spells really match my aggressive play style. Though metal is another lore I've been looking at, though I think to get the best chance of having the augment spells in the lore you need level 3 or 4 and unless you are fighting dwarves the magic missiles are very situational.

So my favorit so far is running dual level 4 on steeds in a sister bunker(8 with banner musician and banner of discipline). I really liked the combo of high (pile up on the cheap spells) and death. Then you have healing(lore attribute) and curse of anahir, from the sisters. Death is for a reason considered the strongest lore in the game. Last game I started with taking out 2 monsters/WM turn 1 and 2 with snipes doing 5 wounds(yes great roll but you pretty often start with +3).
