So I've been planning on a Human army for a long time and tinkered with Brets and didn't fancy Empire...so step in Tilea!
I quite like the mish mash that they can bring to the table and also they're something a little bit different at the same time.
As a historical gamer as well, I have an abundance of 17th century pikemen lying around in various states who will form the body of the army. I also have a number of musketeers to serve as handgunners.
Finished is:
20 pikemen 20 musketeers 12 fast cav with handguns
On the table:
12 swordsmen 36 Perry foot knights with two handed weapons (one of which will be turned into a captain probably) 12 fast cav with swords and pistols
I'll post some pics shortly (and when I can work out how!). I find painting the least enjoyable bit of the hobby so please be gentle!
Doing this blog will force me to do something (ideally a unit a month) and I hope to have 2500 pts on the table shortly!

I also have a dozen or so finished Bret knights that can serve as a heavy cavalry.

looking forward to this one. I have been toying with the idea of a DoW army lately. It would largely be Empire units on double duty. it seems to me rulewise the two unique units are duelists with pistol and paymaster. Not sure how to model the latter, you cooked one up yet?

Yes, I really like the idea of duellists and will look to put some in at some point.
Paymaster wise - I have a couple of ideas but I've not tried it out yet. I'll likely use a 40mm x 40mm base. Warlord Landsknechte Zweihanders with halberds will form the Paymaster's bodyguard I think, so two of them on the base with the Paymaster stood on a chest. I just haven't found a Paymaster figure I like yet as I would quite like them to have a market trader look about them!
Rules wise, I'm thinking of tweaking the 8th ed rules released on Warhammer Armies Project and roadtesting a couple of bits. For example, I like the idea of some older rules of the pikemen having ASF and +2 strength when charged in the front as well as fighting in +3 ranks to represent the phalanx at its finest, but then just having fighting in +3 ranks when charging etc.

Also how do I upload pictures and I can put some of the models I've done up! There’s a couple of ways. I created an account on imgur. You can then create folders in there (say one for each army) and upload your photos to it. You can then select a photo and copy the link to it (use the BB one) and paste into a forum post.

My first unit of fast cavalry. I'd like to make this a fluff driven army rather than WAAC. So here it goes: Captain Gustav Braunheim was a scout captain in the armies of the Empire....that is until he was exiled following a duel over a horse. Following his banishment, he did what all good outlaw soldiers do, he travelled south to the Border Princes. A chance encounter in a tavern with the Tilean Merchant Prince, Domenico Castor, saw him find new employment, ranging ahead of Castor's army with his troop before returning to protect Castor's flanks.

Some of the musketeers/handgunners that will form part of the mercenary troops of the Tilean Wool Merchants Guild. I'll photograph some more tomorrow.

Ha yeah they were just a couple of quick pics on my phone that I had to hand already that I sent to some mates. Yeah struggling for lore. I fancied them as a militia unit protecting trade from piracy etc and owned by a guild but hired out to the merchant princes.

Also not too sure what happened to the captain's horses face in the other pic- it definitely doesn't look like a beige pixel in reality!

Sorry guys! Massive photo dump time! Above are some images of the first half of the pike and muskets (bolstered with other pikes in red until I finish some more!). Led by Michael Di Mateius and his brother carrying the colours, Eustice. The brothers were veterans of the wars against the Skaven, during the assault on Skavenblight, and, along with Thomas Cala, their grizzled sergeant, were charged with raising a regiment of pikemen and handgunners to defend the Tilean Wool Merchant Guild's interests, protecting the supply lines from pirates and to defend the far flung outposts in the New World. Described as arrogant pompinjays, the brothers refused to carry the Merchant Guild's colours, instead carrying their family banner to war. They have long been associates of Domenico Caster and have been known to abandon the Guild and lead their men alongside Castor's forces....for the right price. The veteran sellswords are men to be watched. Equal part adventurer and criminal, these hard men travel the world in search of adventure and plunder. Fortunately, Caster can provide both in abundance. Not the best pic, but this will be Domenico Caster, Merchant Lord of Tilea. Caster was born a poor man in the slums of Akendorf before fleeing to join the Tilean navy. He made his name through a mix of brains and brutality. After completing his ten year service with his long term friend, Juan Jamesh, Caster turned his mind to making money. Joining the wool merchants, he bullied and bought his way to the top. But the lure of adventure was too much for Caster. Leaving his wool business to his business partners, he began to recruit a company of men, desperate for adventure. Juan Jamesh, Castor's trusted lieutenant. NOT PAINTED BY ME - The retinue of the exiled Bretonnian Paladin, Duc Laurent d'Forent. Backstory to follow when I've finished d'Forent and found the bits to make up a musician!

Very nice mate. Pike always look so impressive on the field. Are you thinking of using the fan book (Elias Matthias or what ever he’s called) for them?
I’m also thinking a few of us should maybe get a campaign going. I know Luke B would be up for it.
