Part 1 - Flame Cage and Curse
There are a number of spells where if you move you can take damage: Beasts - Curse of Anraheir, Fire - Fulminating Flame Cage etc.
If you charge (whilst these are on you) and you take over 25% casualties, would you
A) take a panic test (in a similar way to a stand and shoot reaction) B) not take one
If it is ‘B’ then would the casualties count towards combat (I can’t see why they would).
It’s something that came up on the Elector Counts podcast where one of them stated that you wouldn’t take a panic as you are immune to psych on the charge. That’s not correct as otherwise standing and shooting wouldn’t cause a panic test.
Part 2 - Piercing Bolts of Burning
This spell states that for every rank of 5 models you get D3 Str 4 hits. Would monstrous infantries 3 ranks still count as a rank for this? And how about Bretonnians in Lance formation? (Not that the spell would be great against bret’s Due to their save but thought I’d cover all bases).
Cheers

Part 1... You take panic tests as soon as the conditions for it are triggered. Some units are immune to panic on the charge (Knights Errants for example), but beyond that; you are not ItP when charging. Part 2... Unless in an FAQ somewhere, I would have a conversation with my opponent before the game and discuss what the spell should do. RAW vs. RAI... I would state that the spell will affect any complete rank (of any number to its minimum). Eg. Ogres/Brets will be affected in ranks of 3 etc... But I would also go further and add that if your 5 Wolf Riders are snaking around in a rank of 1... Then you have 4 ranks of 1, and the spell will do 4D3 hits, for example... But that's me

Part 1: What DiscoQing says.
Part 2: Yes.
BRB p. 81: "Where most troop types need five models for the rank to count towards rank bonus, steadfast and so on, a unit composed purely of monstrous infantry needs only three models. Essentially, wherever the rules say 'a rank of five or more models' treat it as reading 'a rank of three or more models'.
BRB p. 492: Piercing Bolts of Burning is a magic missile with a range of 24" and causes D3 Strength 4 hits for each rank of five or more models in the target unit.
The same applies to the Lance Formation:
Bretonnia Official Update Version 1.6, p. 1: “Where most cavalry need five models for the rank to count towards rank bonus, steadfast and so on, Knights in Lance formation need only three models. Essentially, wherever the rules say ‘a rank of five or more models’ treat it as reading ‘a rank of three models’.”
Italics mine.
