Hi guys, Here is a new army project I have been working on for a little while. It’s a converted army of Bretonnia, based around the theme of vampire blood knights. Not very original right? I know, undead themed Bretonnian armies have been made a million times, but it’s so cool and fluffy that I can’t help it. I have to make my own. I took inspiration from the story of the false grail. I don’t know where this is initially from, but I love the concept. It’s about Bretonnian knights who got lured by fake visions of the lady that ultimately led them to a false grail. Thinking that they had found the true grail, they all drank from it. They realized only too late that the cup was not filled with the holy light of the lady, but with blood. They all turned and became vampire knights. It is well known that many Bretonnian knights became blood dragon knights at some point, as the chivalric orders of Bretonnia were close with the order of the blood dragons. They were rivals, even enemies, but often kept some kind of mutual respect. Aborash himself was indebted to Gilles le Breton. This is one of my favorite themes in the whole Warhammer fluff, so I finally decided to just go for it and build a cool Bretonnian army. Pretty much all my heroes (lord, prophetess, paladins…) are taken from old vampire models that I found quite fitting. Everything is as fluffy as possible, and respects the “what you see is what you get” sacred rule. I am throwing in a few models from the AOS Nightaunt range and a few other tricks as well to give some character. For the color scheme, there’s gonna be a lot of bloody red. Because we like red. And blood. The army is 2500pts, and even though it’s not meant to be ultra-competitive, I hope it will still be able to perform in serious matches. So, here we start with the first painted models. I am now building a big block of 50 men at arms, and 2 trebuchets. A lot more will be coming up soon. Seeya !

Looks good! Do you have a stock of Bret models already to use for this project? Thanks Sedge. I went into a massive eBay shopping fever and most of them are still on the way, but I got enough stuff already to stay busy !

Love it!!!! I'm a huge fan of fluff driven armies as opposed to super competitive. Makes gaming so much more fun and can make for a great campaign.
Cant wait to see more! Let's hope with the popularity of Brets amongst the Total War saga that GW bring some back....

They really should bring them back and give us some new cool models, that would be fantastic. I feel like Brets are still really popular even today. Regarding fluff VS competitive, I personally get my fun more from fluffy armies. That said I always try to find some balance and to make the armies actually work ! So, here is a little update. I kept working on the trebuchets, they are almost done now. Then I started to base coat one of my nightaunt unit filers, and I got a cool fleur de lys dice set and bag. I’m sure it will help with those blessing of the lady dice rolls xD !

A lot of stuff arrived today ! It’s Christmas ! I got 20 knights of the realm in, some bowmen, and a bunch of heroes. I’m starting to get a good feeling about the overall vibe of the army when I see the look that the men at arms block is starting to take. It kinda works like I wanted to, which is great. I also built my lord and gave him a mighty bretonnian sword. I won’t reveal what his mount is just yet, that will be a surprise for later. Seeya !

I just requested that it would be great to see Bretonnians and Tomb Kings return on the GW community survey - fat chance that it will happen because GW can be stubborn beggars, but I've made the plea anyhow - maybe someone will hear the call... Regarding fluff VS competitive, I personally get my fun more from fluffy armies. That said I always try to find some balance and to make the armies actually work ! My philosophy exactly. So, here is a little update. I kept working on the trebuchets, they are almost done now. Then I started to base coat one of my nighthaunt unit filers, and I got a cool fleur de lys dice set and bag. I’m sure it will help with those blessing of the lady dice rolls xD ! Very nice dice bag - I've got a full leather pouch that I use to carry dice and a mini tape measure whenever I play 'away matches' because it's so much easier to carry.

Here’s another update. First, I have arranged my unit of bowmen skirmishers, the fat dude with the torch represents the flaming attacks. Then I came back to the ghost to give him a few highlights and few more goodies. Finally, I started to build some of my characters and to see how they fit in their respective units. The Lahmian vampire model will be my prophetess. It’s quite funny that she sits the exact same way as bretonnian damsels do ! It’s a classic model and I love it. The blood dragon vampire, another classic, will be a paladin wielding the wyrm lance. How fitting, there is an actual wyrm on his lance !!! WYSIWYG levels are going through the roof here. Is it just me, or does it feel like GW did this purposely ? So many similarities between bretonnian models/rulebook and blood dragon vampires, I’m having a lot of fun playing with it !

Hi there, I decided to use another painting technique for the nightaunt unit filers, I like the look better now. 4 of them are now done, so the unit of 50 men at arms is all built, primed, and some of them are painted. Photos of the full unit will come soon. Knights are all built and primed as well.

Yo ! I did a lot of painting in the last days, things are going well. First, i painted the mounted vampire with the lance. I changed my mind about this guy, he’s so cool that he’s going to be my lord. He will be wielding the heartwood lance. Then I painted a lahmian vampire on foot that I will use as a damsel. She will be going in the men at arms to give them the blessing. And finally, a few shots of the full unit of MAA. Starting to look like something. I’m gonna leave them here and start painting some knights and more heroes next.
