I never thought I'd be someone who would collect/play historical games... I had always factored this genre of war gaming as the "old man" version of table top games.
But last Weekend whilst at a friends house, another friend had brought in the SPQR starter set. It's a roman era warband game. We played 2vs.2, and had a right blast.
I was hooked. I had initially put off playing it, so I'm glad we did, tho. I have since bought an Ancient Briton (Welsh!) warband.
Is anyone else interested in this game?

I bought Wargaming illustrated this month (holiday read) and it had some of the Roman Legionaries free on the front. I’ve heard good things about it but never played it.

I'm playing a couple of games tonight, I'll take some pictures and a mini review for tomorrow.
Non of our minis will be painted, however!

I had been considering doing Warlord ancients for a while now (I'm a fan of Ancient Britons as well because I love Celtic history), but was concerned that I wouldn't have room for a whole Hail Caesar army's worth of their 28mm minis because of all the Warhammer stuff I've made. SPQR allows me to still collect some of their figures but not too many as to cause the dam to burst, as it were. Also as usual their prices are so much more affordable than GW (especially their hero sets containing several resin figures for the price of what GW would charge for just one of their Finecast minis). knoffles I also bought that issue, and I'm very pleased with the Legionaries I got (bought it in part to get the Legionaries as an introduction to Warlord's range to see what they were like). GW could certainly learn a thing or two from Warlord about sculpting human faces!

Here's some pictures from the games we had last night... Real good fun, learned some annoying things however.... Eg. Britons, Germania and Gauls can have helmets (+1 armour) OR Leather Armour (+1 armour). Helmets are 2pts each, leather is 5pts each. There is 0 reason to take leather armour, even from a fluff perspective, lol. The FAQ says its for historical purposes (some were more expensive for different races etc). Still good fun!

Are your Celts Victrix by any chance? The Druid certainly looks like the one from their chariot set.

They are by Victrix!
They're actually pretty awesome sculpts tbh. They require mould line removal, but it's easy to come off. They also only require minimal building... Heads, a hand or an arm (maybe two arms on some).
They are however bigger than the Warlords stuff, so they look really imposing haha.

I think the only way I could justify getting these was if I could work out a way of using them as a sudo Empire army.

They could work as marauders, or as kislevites?

I think they work well as Empire if you have an almost GoT Wildlings aesthetic.

Got my paws on a copy of the SPQR rulebook today - time to get reading!
Certainly liking the look of the Ancient Britons list so far, especially Caratacus, who’s been given a suitably awesome set of special rules and talents!

Some photos of what I've been working on, whilst I should've been painting warhammer stuff... Behold, the Welsh! I'm also adding some fantasy elements in order to use in other games, so this isn't a purely historical project. Mainly Warlords of Erehwon, kings of war etc

Mainly Warlords of Erehwon, kings of war etc Now that's what I call a perfect army of Victrix Celts! Are they from any particular tribe? If they're Welsh they have the choice of being from the Ordovices, Silures, Demetae, Deceangli or Cornovii. Also, any particular Ancient Briton SPQR lists you're especially fond of using in your games?
