Well hopefully they will start with Brets and then Skaven since neither received an 8th Ed book.

I think unfortunately Brets and TK will be a little way off if they come back as they were completely chopped in all forms for AoS

But if the rules are a rehash of 8th, surely first army books should be Skaven and Beastmen as races not cut but without dedicated 8th ed books? Although Empire will likely to be the first re-released race. Humans are the easiest to sell and are often the entry point for new gamers. Bretonnia fills both those boxes. Also, given that GW have been redoing the entire Sisters of Battle range in plastic, they could easily do similar for the old Bretonnian minis. Furthermore, given that GW re-released Settra for Warhammer Legends, it’s evident they kept at least some of the Tomb King (and possibly Bretonnian) moulds after they were executed.

I really want an updated Empire Knights kit. That'd make me happy. I remember everyone over at Warhammer-Empire being so excited for new Knights before the 8th Empire book came out and then just being like........what the heck?

Honestly, I don't expect army books but rather Horus Heresy style 3 lists in one campaign book style releases.

Oh is that how they do it? Okay. I have no background knowledge on 30k at all other than that it exists.
I mean for me, as long as the rules get updated for armies, I don’t care if it’s in one book.

Like, we'd get an Eight Peaks campaign book and the rules for Dwarves, Skaven, and O&G would be in it. Cuts back on their product SKUs and gets out 3 armies for a few cycles of releases.

But I think Empire are still an easier sell to new gamers. Brets, particularly in 8th, aren't the most potent and require some thinking about rather than shoot charge repeat. Also, the conspiracy theorist in me wonders if that's why they quietly pulled some of the Empire range not long ago...

More or less. There's a generic Marine list, then each campaign book adds specific Legion rules/units to it as well as full army lists for other forces in that campaign(Ruinstorm, Solar Auxillia/Imperial Army, Mechanicus, etc.).

We might not get the Old World as we know it. They may Horus Heresy us and go back to a different time point which is not entirely recognisable.
I am also not entirely sure we will get army books in the old way. They may put the rules out (to a certain extent) for free etc...

Hahaha... while I am cautiously pessimistic about how this will turn out, I'm not going to lie, this is awesome. I never thought of this angle! Well here I am, your first band-Wagoner. This was the first place I came when I saw the news. I've been buying up 8th edition stuff for a few years and watching this forum but never got around to playing a game. I could never get anyone at my club interested (Bexley Reapers, Kent, Uk) they all play KoW which is fine, but it's just not the old world! I live in Eltham, so just down the road from your club. The only reason I tend to go to SELWG in Catford is they meet on a Friday and I think Bexley is a Mid-week meet which I struggle with because of work. If you drive, there are a few of us (such as Greg) who are always up for a game.

I also don't see the future quite as rosy. I don't think GW sees cancelling the old world as a mistake that they now need to undo. After all, they then went on to create 'the most successful game ever' (belch!) and stock prices are soaring. The part about this being similar to 30K that makes me hopeful is that to my understanding 30K kind of sticks with older 40K rules. The less they mess with 8th edition rules the better.
I am worried that lead balloons and flying sharks will crossover. Then there is the scale creep. Exhibit A is that 7ft warrior priest. And all these 'dynamic' poses of e.g. the recent chaos guys don't translate well to rank-n-file. Worst case scenario is some kind of Frankenstein rule set from this 'models first' company that somehow allows round based AoS abominations into the good old world to fight with/against ranked units of yore.
In the meantime, let's play 8th edition for a few more years!
