wilsonthenarcSome questions came up regarding terrain, specifically marshlands. I looked at the terrain features more closely. This is the main differences: Forests: Units cannot be steadfast (unless they are Stubborn). Skirmishers gain Stubborn special rule. Provides soft cover. Dangerous Terrain for Cavalry, Monstrous Cavalry, chariots, and flyers. Rivers: Units cannot be steadfast (unless they are Stubborn) and cannot claim rank bonus. Additionally, units cannot march. Marshland: All models tests for Dangerous Terrain, except Skirmishers. Cavalry, Monstrous Cavalry and chariots fail on a 1 or 2. So, units do have ranks and can be steadfast in a marsh.

Thanks Kevin, I agree. It means Dan and I played it 100% right.
Which means the wording on Ranger's Standard where we saw it was odd. Something to the effect of: "A unit in a forest or marsh will not lose steadfast when they have this banner."
Which is true. And fine. It's just that it would imply a unit without that standard WOULD lose steadfast.
The rule was also fresh in my mind cause Dan and I had just played a game where that would have made a huge difference. It was very fresh in my mind cause I rolled 3 "1's" on 4 dice for one turn which lead to having my own undead Monsters and Monstrous Cavalry sucked into the quicksand.
The quicksand don't care who you are.

Yeah, the Range's Standard is merely saying that the unit will not lose steadfast as a result of being in terrain.

I think that table goes back before 8th.

Heirloom Table was published in a WD during 8th edition.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I believe it was written before 8th, however, to coincide with its release. It would explain the awkward wording.

I just noticed the Ranger's Standard is also in the rulebook but works differently. In the rulebook it gives the unit the Strider special rule.

That's what makes me believe that the WD one was made during early 8th writing.

Could be, but there are a lot of items on the heirloom table that appear no where else in 8th edition.
