Ok, for the warmachine painting competition I will be working on for the cannon and crew from the battle for skull pass set. I discovered that I don't have many unpainted warmachines laying around so the picking was slim. I also looked into getting a goblin hewer as I love the mini and don't own one but all of them I could find were outrageously priced.

Here is a bit of an update. I stayed up late last night and got the base colors on the crew complete. I am actually trying several new things on these minis. First, in the past I have always painted a portion of the mini complete before moving on. So I would do all of the armor including washes and highlights before going to skin for example. With these guys I decided to try doing all base colors, then any washes and finally highlights. Second the basing is different than with my other dwarves. In the past I have just painted the base green and applied flock at the end. These guys have sand on their bases which I will paint and then add a few select spots of grass flock. I have used this method for my lizardmen and it looks much better than just flock but all my past dwarves were flocked. I figure this is a painting completion so I should go all out. Finally I just recently finished changing my paints out to 100% Citadel. I used to use the cheap paint that you get at the hobby store. Sometimes the base coat would take up to three layers. Over the last couple of years I have slowly been building up my collection of citadel paints but now I have all of them that I need to paint my dwarves.

Now that's a nice clean basecoat.
