Hey everyone!
So I am trying to get together a High Elf (Or maybe the unified elves, I kinda forgot their name) army for my girlfriend before we really move in together. I so far got her an Island of Blood box, and a box of spearmen to form the backbone of the army, but was wondering what others consider to be cool models, or must haves for the army as I have never touched elves myself, and I have a few months to get things together.
Plus if anyone has an extra copy of the codex let me know!

The White Lions are some of my favorite miniatures (fluffwise and rules)...Stubborn, S4, with great weapons...big fan of them. The White Lion chariots are pretty cool too, IMHO.

Some pheonix guard, archers (or a few more seaguard), and a bolt thrower or 2 should give a fairly rounded army

I think Frostheart Phoenix, White Lions & Phoenix Guard are considered the "best" choices. To be honest any of the HE special choices are excellent. I still love Swordmasters but they don't have the staying power of the other two. But the volume of dice you throw...

One of the lads that Knoffles and I play with uses 4 units of Reavers to be a right pain the backside if you're wanting a fast, annoying blocker style of play

Their strength is the sheer versatility they have and it’s why I rate them as one of the higher tier armies. I’m always a fan of running cav with them. Silverhelms and Dragon Princes. They have so many great models that you should probably just find out which ones she likes the look of and go from there.

If I were starting someone out with HE, I'd shoot for the following:
Dragon Princes - No two ways about it, these guys are just GOOD. Can't go wrong with them, and they look super cool to boot! Two attacks per knight (3 for the Champ - who can carry a magic item too!) is quite powerful on the charge! Plus, they can carry a 50 pt magic banner! Not too shabby.
Frostheart Phoenix - Strong, affordable monster for the HE that has good symmetry.
Phoenix Guard - For starters, these guys are great. Their 4++ ward save is super handy for them because they are usually just pushed forward into combat and left to fight it out. S4 elves aren't bad either.
Bolt Throwers - At least two of these for some good shooting protection.
Sisters of Avelorn - These are going to do the most shooting damage for you from any ranged unit for HE. Plus, your girlfriend will probably really like having a unit of all girls kicking butt.
Great Eagles - Get one box of two. They'll do you good as war machine hunters and chaff clearers.
Ellyrian Reavers - HE chaff, but can be good for a number of things. Also very fast and can vanguard. Always a good option.
You'll need to get her a mage or two. The Frostheart Phoenix box will include an on-foot character if you're looking to save a bit.
A LOT of people swear by White Lions, I've just personally never had a ton of luck with them. Never a bad option though. I wouldn't bother with most of the HE chariot options. Not that great. The Skycutters aren't that good. Look super-cool, just not that effective.
As far as core, depends really on how you want to build your army. I've found that you can never really go wrong with Archers. They simply sit in the back, act as a mage bunker and pour it on the entire game. (Remember that HE get to attack in 3 ranks, so I will often configure my units to have at least three ranks.) Spearmen require large numbers (50 really) to utilize them best. Lothern Sea Guard are a good option for their versatility, but you really have to decide what role you want them to have. CC unit or shooting unit? It's hard to have them be both. Silver Helms are okay (largely due to their armor and movement) but don't need to get stuck into prolonged combat due to their low Strength. And with a Dragon Prince option available, I'd only take them if you are wanting a high movement army build. They CAN work though, if you're careful, but for your girlfriend (I'm assuming she's new to this) I'd probably hold off on them to begin with.
Let us know what you go with!

Sorry for not thanking everyone earlier, just been a little bundle of worry and anxiety over this global pandemic thing that is going on. I thank you all for the advice! So what I have been looking at is some White Lions, as a few of you all suggested them. They seem like a fairly luck independent unit as well that can form a good little flank protector, or main line hammer unit. Strengthy for a High Elf Unit too (As a person who plays Brets, I know the pain of S3 ) I will definitely need to get some Dragon Princes, as I noticed when we play Total War Warhammer together, she tends to like a fair bit of cavalry in her army just because they are cool to her. The fact they are good units on top of it is icing on the cake! Finding a Bolt Thrower box seems to be the hardest part, but I am sure I can manage to get some, plus who doesn't love artillery? Same problem with Great Eagles. Shadow Warriors are good value (IRL money to in game points), plus she likes the look of them, so that will definitely be on the list. Plus she can use any extras as Sisters if I remember correctly. Definitely am going to ask her about her preference in dragons and phonexs and such. I would hate to get her something that is really cool to me, only for her to have no interest in painting it. The core is probably going to be the hardest part, archers, and spearmen will probably be the backline. Might include something like Sisters of Slaughter (She does like the ascetic of Ardent Mages of Endless Legend) in a combined army to get her further into the game with ascetics (Or even use them as counts as units if she wants). Plus it gives her even more versatility. Sorry if this all came off as slightly rambling, I just am really thankful for you guys taking the time to help me out, and feel bad that I took a month to thank you

On the Eagles, the Hobbit Eagles box is excellent and I assume still available

Yep. Those are by far the best eagles you can get for elves.
