Greetings!
I have been playing Warhammer for a big part om my life. Started back in the late 90's. Lost my entire gaming group after The end times and sadly sold off all my stuff. But I really miss it and I am now trying to build a Fantasy community in my home town. I'm building some armies and the plan is to get people to try the game and hopefully start armies of their own. Back then Lizardmen, Vampire counts and High elves where my go to armies. But so far I have build some Wood elves, Skaven and High elves (Thanks Island of blood). I have loads of Lizarmen on sprue for a future project and I would also like to have Dwarfs, Orcs and goblins and Vampire counts. But it all depends on the interest. Currently in a planning stage and also trying to get my hands on as many army books and magic cards as I can. Currently own High elves, Wood elves, Dark elves and Orcs and goblins.
I found many of my old lists on an old laptop and all of them are 2400 points. It's been so long since the last time I played but was that standard sized games? Or was it just a thing we did in our gaming group?
Anyway it feels great to be back and I can't wait for an new era in the Warhammer fantasy community!
Thank you for reading

Welcome back! Most tournaments were 2,400 or 2,500 points (about a 50/50 split, at least in my area). So yes, 2,400 points was something like a standard size.

If you're trying to get new players involved, smaller point values work better. A 2400 point army is a hefty investment for someone.
An escalation league might be a better choice. Start around 500 points and build up from there.

Yeah my plan was to use armies that look like something from a starter set or battalion box I have a complete Island of blood already, a wood elves army and some Lizardmen. I will try to get some battalion boxes second hand and add a character or two.

Question, if I want to use a phoenix. Is the frostheart without a rider the best option? I believe I had a Frostheart with an anoited and a flamespyre without rider in my 8th edition army back then.

Yep, Frostheart without a rider is the best option, though even mounted Frosthearts (Anointed or Caradryan) are strong.
Flamespyres are decent but a bit weird as they do a lot of their damage by not being in combat. You therefore don't want to waste a combat character on them, particularly as they die if the phoenix does.

Of all the armies, which would you say is the most allround? I'm thinking Empire or Orcs and goblins.
