How do, everyone. I think this forum is a great idea. I had certainly not foreseen that if GW were to give up warhammer fantasy that within 12 months it would be dead and buried with nobody to play it for miles! Obviously not everyone thought 8th edition was worth fighting for.
I've not really been in the scene for a while now, not outwardly anyway, and so the first thing I did was branch out to all the old gaming groups I had been to in the past. Sadly not a single one still play warhammer fantasy, nor do any of my friends (or my wife, for that matter, Age of Sorrows put the final nail in her warhammer coffin).
So i'm making one last attempt to search for a gaming group or individuals who I might have the odd battle with. I'm in South Yorkshire, so anybody from Rotherham, Sheffield, Barnsley or Doncaster. But I'm not opposed to a bit of travel and if anybody is within an hour or so (so, all of yorkshire, north derbyshire/nottinghamshire/lincolnshire) I would be happy to meet up and play a few games.
I've had no luck anywhere else searching for a game, so Grungni be good I'll find an opponent here. Next stop is turning the warhammer room back into a bedroom if not! Sad day.

thebeardedbaron, Welcome! I'm glad you found us! We all completely understand your plight, I'll never get over how fast the community abandoned WFB 8th edition. We obviously want to keep it alive and keep playing and, as odd as it may seem, I believe people will come crawling back to the game in the future...

BTW, there is another topic with a player looking for a game in Brighton UK, not sure how close that is to you....

Ah, cheers fellas. I could tell after reading a few posts here that the tone of the people was about on par with mine.
I think you're right about people coming back, Kev, I think there'll be a bit of a resurgence too. The bloody shame of it all, though, is that when Total War: Warhammer hits Games Workshop would have stood to gain not just a few hundred but millions of new gamers, had they played their cards right. Already the forums are full of people curious about the tabletop. One last concentrated push towards fantasy (like how End Times brought in mass interest to 8th, and generated record sales) would have really given it the platform to take off. Instead any new players are going to walk into a GW and ask for a brettonian or empire army only to be offered a game playing as Golden Angels fighting over 40k terrain. Pah.
Ne mind though. Those few of us left ought to stick together. And sadly Brighton is on the opposite end of the country (and the wrong end, bless them!) but pretty soon that wouldn't be out of the question in order to get a game in!
Ta for your support, guys, and whether I find anyone to game with or not I'll always be a member here now.

Good day eefl'ers. In response to this message above, I have seen more and more distance separating us fellow warhammers. My son and I who are separated due to work and travel, we have a room set up, with table and cameras, and a flat screen TV, so that he and I use Skype to play a game remotely. The cameras are great and it is a video conference and we roll our own dice. Sounds crazy I know, why not just buy the game, but it's never the same as having the armies line up.....

I considered traveling to England this summer with my son. A main part of the visit was going to be Warhammer World. Sadly I am no longer interested in this trip, I feel like it would upset me too much seeing a fucking Stormcast statue out front.

Paint some Hochland colored graffiti on the statue.

I always wanted to make it to the UK for a WFB tournament. Sadly, that can not longer happen.

Paint some Hochland colored graffiti on the statue. I'm still laughing at this 30 seconds latter!

Warhammer World is still amazing, you can still play 8th Ed on there tables. Re: South Yorkshire gaming, I'm not that far from you but I only really play once in every blue moon with my brother.

Well mate if ever you fancy a pick-up game for a change, message me. I'd be happy to roll some dice even if it is once in a blue moon =)

Hello Bearded - I wish I lived near you but alas not. I went to university in Sheffield and love the area (great mountain biking!). I'm up your way occasionally as I've lots of family and friends around Derbyshire / Yorkshire, but I'm in Reading now with a newborn daughter so travel is limited for a while. Give me a shout in 6 months or if you're down south
