I'm also going to get an early start this month (as always, trailing behind mottdon ;p). The first model completed was a 40k model, so I've posted pics in the ' other than 8th' section rather than sully this one . I've also completed the first unit in my Bret's. Now these were off a club mate and were part (base) painted already, with one model fully completed, so the painting was mainly trying to paint the others to match that completed model. I do have the makings of a back story for the army and this unit and why they don't have individual heraldry and why many don't have ornate helms (some had already been removed and i also took off a couple). Needless to say, they'll be run as Errants. It's also the first unit I've ever bothered to magnatise. A small thing but i'm still quite pleased with that.

Neat, knoffles! Let's make this knight month. Those dark elves have reigned for too long. To be honest, most of these guys were painted last month. Just finished the last guy so logging them now. More pictures will be in my project log ...one day.

Great work everybody.
Can somebody please inform me on the formalities of these monthly "painting challenges"? Side note: some stickied thread with "this is how it works" would be helpful (or I'm just blind - if so, please point me in the right direction). Thanks in advance!

Great work everybody. Can somebody please inform me on the formalities of these monthly "painting challenges"? Side note: some stickied thread with "this is how it works" would be helpful (or I'm just blind - if so, please point me in the right direction). Thanks in advance! There really aren't any "rules" for it. At the beginning of each month, we simply post a goal that we'd like to achieve concerning our hobby (be that painting, modeling, writing a backstory, etc. - that may be one model or a lot) and then we post our progress periodically, throughout the month. It's a good way of sharing what we've done and motivating each other to stay active with our hobbies. Given the interest in our game isn't what it used to be prior End Times, we've found this to be a great way to support each other and keep the kindling lit. For example, I typically post several models that I'd like to work on during the month. I tend to do quite a few, so I try to AIM to have one ready to go near the beginning of each new thread so we (as a group) can start the ball rolling with some momentum. I then try to space them out so that the thread doesn't go dry at any point and people just forget about it. Others are simply happy if they get one model painted per month. That's perfectly fine! It's really whatever pace the individual is comfortable with. We're not here to judge or condemn, but support and keep each other motivated. Sometimes suggestions are made as to what might help improve some aspect, but it's all done with much grace and humbleness.

well, the first rule of the painting challenge is, there are no rules. Somebody important will start a new thread on the 1st of the month. Then early in the month (though it's never to late, because see above), you boldly state what you are going to work on this month, can be as detailed or vague as you want (because see above). Then, as you finish it, you post a pic and bask in our adoration. If you don't finish, just never talk about it and very likely nobody will notice. Though, optionally, you can chastise yourself publically for failing. That's pretty much it. Other than that, just cheer other people on. Lastly, there is a concurrent, cool yearly challenge in separate thread with very elaborate and detailed goals, same principles though, bask in glory, chastising yourself optional.
edit: oops. ninja'ed by mottdon. though at least we pretty much said the same thing.

Thank you both!
Alrighty then, I hereby heroically declare to... maybe paint some models! All kidding aside, I have just primed five Black orcs yesterday, will prime ten Direwolf today, and also want to get three Ogres painted somewhat soonish. And since my attention to projects has the life expectancy of a snowball in hell, expect any or none of this... possibly this month. Or not.

That's the spirit. You'll do great around here.

Well. Maybe you all thought grandmasterwang painted the shaggiest miniature this month with beautiful Karen. Think again! Here is Big Shaggy and his family.
