Think I’ve got this mini, metal, still in blister. Can’t check it’s definitely the same one right now coz mine is stashed in the loft. My one is from Mierce. Got it in a trade like 10 years ago. Think the guy I got it from said it was a limited edition for the ETC. Very few pics of it around.

Yeah tell us about it Mark! And sorry for hijacking your thread with this but I couldn’t help it.
Being a big fantasy reader as a kid I tried writing (but even I could tell it was bad pastiche of one of my influences) and tried to come up with plots and settings (but never came up with anything original). My last go was this. Just for fun can you name the 3 key influences (not wfb)? Beware there is one major red (wink) herring in there.
Independent minded clansmen from a remote highland province of a very hierarchical empire provide elite rifle-armed light infantry to the imperial armies. Fighting in Napoleonic style battles against one of the empire’s southern rivals they receive word of damaging raids on their home villages by their ancestral enemies, barbaric creatures (orcalikes) who live in the neighbouring wasteland. They petition the imperial command to release them to return home. They are denied but news of even more devastating attacks leads to them deserting the imperial forces. Returning home they defeat the orcs in pitched battle but meanwhile the empire suffers a defeat in the south for which the absence of the clansmen is blamed. Following a formal imperial admonishment of the clansmen, the imperial command starts massing forces in the clan province, including brutish monstrous mercenaries (ogrealikes). This is ostensibly mustering a force to mount a punitive expedition against the orcs. A great feast is held to welcome the imperial command and the clansmen let their guard down - but the imperials are secretly under orders from the tyrannical emperor to destroy them in punishment for their desertion. At the height of the feast the massacre begins. A small group of clan survivors fight themselves free but have no choice but to flee into exile - across the orc infested wastes. The story follows their nomadic journeys, selling their services as elite mercenaries across the known world as they seek a new home, possibly culminating in a revenge mission against the empire.

0/3 Lordofskullpass sorry There is a science fiction one in there but not those. I know it sounds like the clansmen are Scottish and the empire English but in my head (being English) the clansmen are Northern English and the empire is more Roman EDIT: Really see where you got Braveheart from. But I Just used clansmen as a shorthand and hadn’t even realised i’d put “highland” in there. Meant mountains really. Also the reference to the south probably suggests the clansmen’s province is in the north when in my mind it’s in the west.

Mine is a simple chase/hunt story, where people who have previously been trying to kill each other must team up to survive The Sorrow Road. It is heavily influenced by my love of ancient history and myths. A raiding force is captured as they attempt to break into a city on the coast of the Pearl Sea, but something else comes, the Cyclopes, monsters that have not been seen for hundreds of years. They are captured, taken north, and put into the Cyclopes own hunting grounds. Survivors from both the raiders and attacked city must work together to survive. This is the working blurb: The Sorrow Road. A hunting ground. A place of death. Enemies must join together to survive three hundred miles of mountains, rivers, forests, monsters, and magic. Hate is strong, but survival is stronger. Let the hunt begin. And the cover. I've about half a chapter left of the first draft.

Write it fella, sounds good. I'm getting a bit of a Sharpe influence with the elite rifle armed infantry.

Looks and sounds great Mark! I like a bit of Greek myth as well so you can put me down for one.
Google has now reminded me where Dienekes is from, nice, I read Pressfield’s Gates of Fire too long ago to remember from that and all I’ve retained from 300 is this is SPARTA! (In a Scottish accent) and the visuals.
Spot on with Sharpe. The other 2 influences are: - a well known sci-fi franchise that’s been through 2 iterations - an obscure bit of background lore from a very famous fantasy setting

Great book, I've probably read it about 5 times. Is it Black Company by any chance?
