The dust has settled after Skarsnik's magnificient victory at Karak Eight Peaks. I met the other players last weekend and we had a chance to talk about our options for next year's game. We decided to go with the only combination of players we've never done before. My father and youngest brother would team up, and after some deliberation they decided to go with a Chaos Dwarf/Chaos Warriors alliance. My other brother and myself have quite a few armies to choose from, but we quickly narrowed it down to an Orc/Beast alliance or a Great Host of Nurgle. This was a tough choice for me as both these armies include a bunch of relatively new models I'm aching to paint. In the end we went with Nurgle as this will also allow us to play through ET: Glottkin next summer. We talked about maybe doing the Orc/Beast thing next year. Our opponent agreed to go with a Tzeentch theme with his opposing warriors so we'll get a nice and fluffy all chaos battle.
Painting the Nurgle army is going to be very different from the Night Goblins. For one thing, I already have over 4000 points of Nurgle Daemons so I only have to paint an army of about 2-3000 points of Mortals and Monsters. Given how expensive Chaos models are, this means less than 100 models to paint.
The Nurgle Daemons I already have. I'm going to continue the same paint scheme on the mortals -- fleshy skin, red or green sores and boils, brown armour, green weapons and dirty white cloth. The mortals will stand out from the daemons as they have lots of armour, but the full army will still have a coherent look.
I quickly made a short list of units I wanted to do:
Forgeworld Great Unclean One
Maggot Lord
Blightkings
Forgeworld Plague Ogres
Plague Warriors
Plague Knights
Chaos Spawn
Then I leafed through old books for inspiration and found this old gem:
Naturally I added Nurgle Marauders with flails to the list. I'll build them from Empire Flagellants.
Finally I went to the store for my first supply phase. I love the Blightking kit -- very nice models, and plenty of bits to spare to nurglify other units.
