Ok....maybe a bit over-ambitious...
First goals in this order: - finish the terrain I'm currently working on - finish building my Wood Elves - finish building my Skaven ("only" green stuff work remaining)
...and in no particular order: - finish painting my Ironbreakers - finish painting the crew for my Dwarf war machines - paint one unit of Dwarfs - paint 3 Dwarf characters - finish painting my Mournfang Cavalry - finish painting 3 Oger characters - paint my Ironguts - build my Hellcannon - paint one unit of Warriors of Chaos - paint one WoC character - paint one unit of Wood Elves - paint one Wood Elf character

Thanks! But don't hold your breath - I haven't finished painting a unit in almost a decade...

New year, new goals! Don’t despair sedge, this was/is the best thread around IMO. Putting goals out there in the world help keep schlubs like me accountable for their goals. I checked back on my list of goals multiple times last year and it really helped me keep up with what I was doing so thanks for sharing this idea with us all once again.
I may not have as much time this year as I had last year (working from home was absolutely wonderful… I’m gunna miss it), but I’m going to set some goals still anyways as well as steal a couple of other peoples goals for myself.
1. Stolen from knoffles, NO NEW ARMIES! Just stop it already. You barely play warhammer as it is, just stop getting new armies. You don’t need them thezildo, get that through your thick skull.
2. Stolen from kaltheras, The 365 goal is admirable but I am pretty certain that I won’t have the time or opportunity to get close to that unless it’s all skellies. So I’m going to aim for half of that, yes, 182.5 models. The tricky part is that I have never kept track of how many models I have painted and am historically terrible at keep records like that so it’ll be more of a challenge to keep count than to paint them.
3. Paint 40 deamonettes, 40 bloodletters, 40 horrors, 40 crypt ghouls, and 40 skeleton archers. The daemons are all base coated so it feels cheap counting them as fully painted models from this year so I figure I would only count those as half a model each. Completing this would get me to 140 and well on my way for goal #2.
4. Make/paint 6 new “major” terrain pieces. Not just some scatter, but actual stuff.
I think that’s all I need for now. Hopefully by setting achievable goals like this I’ll be more likely to complete them. Looking forward to seeing others’ goals and getting updates on them.

To echo others, sedge, keep pushing for this yearly goals discussion. I find it a good read, the breadth of ambitions is interesting. This was last year for me: let's see, in order of importance: 1) buy the right house for some serious garage-hammering 2) fight over Volganof with a certain kaltheras 3) round out the undead to ~3K 4) chip away at Grey Mountain in general. that means mostly Empire and Chaos. Well, we bought a house but, no garage! (I know, what the hell?!?). so, 1) build a garage or shed for serious 'hammering 2) same as last year...but not unlikely we'll fail again as 1) is hard. 3) paint more undead because 3K isn't nearly enough 4) same as last year. or, actually, any year. 5) pick up 2nd hand wood elves of opportunity in preparation for 2023, the year of wood elves 6) don't get tempted into hobbying on wood elves of opportunity, stay the course on 3&4

A top up resolution. I have just purchased a hardback notebook to record hobby plans, lists and most importantly paint recipies.

I want to finish at least one of each Wood Elves unit in the 8th edition book. I'm an incredible slow painter, but I will really try to complete that task.

Taking a look at how my goals are getting on for the year: - Paint more models than I get - painted 170 so far, and only got 98 models, so I'm doing well - I've whittled down the overall number of unpainted models by 72. I'm hoping for that to be at least 100 by the year's end... though given I probably have well over a thousand unpainted models, that means it'd take a decade more of this discipline to paint everything.
- Paint over 200 models - well on my way to this. Could even reach 250?
- Finish off one army - this isn't happening. I've not been focused on any one army, and there's no way I'm finishing off any of them this year.
- Paint models from at least 8 different armies - technically I've painted Beastmen, Warriors of Chaos, Orcs & Goblins, Wood Elves, Vampire Counts, Ogre Kingdoms, Dwarfs (well, 1 Dwarf), Tomb Kings, so I think I'm there!
- Make a start on my Lizardmen and Ogres - I've painted a couple of units of Ogre Bulls, so halfway there with this. I don't have any primed Lizardmen; I'm not sure I'll touch any this year.
- Paint at least two of my long-neglected centrepiece models - the Merwyrm certainly counts as one of these. Still need to pick another.
Pretty happy with how things are going so far.

Time to assess how I did this year: - no garage. no Volganof game. double fail there on 1&2) - Undead are up to 6K. Raging success on 3)! - I did paint a few Empire models. I did paint quite a bit of Chaos. But, considering purchases, I am not convinced I have less models in Grey Mountain now. Best not to do careful book keeping. Overall I give myself a passing grade on 4). - I did pick up quite a few Wood Elves. But then I broke down and started painting in ~October. I suppose that's technically a fail on 6). But, really I only jumped the gun by a bit. It's all good.
Started thinking about what I want to focus on next year but, I'll wait for MC sedge to start a proper new Yearly Goals thread.

My main one is to continue to paint regularly, flitting between whatever army takes my fancy. I will attempt to finish off my Beastmen, currently around 10 Gor, 5 centigor and a good handful of Minotaurs. (I’m desperately trying to hold off repainting a number of the mino’s and ghorgons to match the colour of the Gor). Though let’s be honest the army is bound to expand this year too as it needs more raiders and some cygor. I will attempt not to start any new armies. I aim to paint at least one of the many bloodbowl teams I own. Well my aims were so loose it was almost impossible to fail but I did my best. The centigor and Gor were done but none of the minos. I definitely didn’t paint a BB team either. However, I did almost fully paint a Bretonnian army and a good chunk of my Lizards too so I’m calling this a win

So how did I do this year? My main painting goals for 2022 are: 1. Paint my Lothlorien warband for LotR, along with small Rivendell and Rohan warbands as potential allies. - Got a basic Lothlorien/Rohan force done.2. Paint up a box of Imperial Armada figures for Freebooter’s Fate. - No3. Finish my Roman warband for Saga. - No
4. Make some more progress on my Albion and Chaos armies. - No5. Paint some stuff just for fun, too, and try out some new techniques in the process. - Yes!Okay, so not a lot of progress on the original plan. However, I did also start painting up an army for Horus Heresy, added a few things to my wood elves, and painted up a few character models, for a total of 70 figures, so I'm not disappointed. Onwards to 2023!

I'm setting myself the following targets: - Paint more models than I get - the big goal, and one I want to achieve every year. I managed it last time, let's keep at it. Never mind that at the current rate of cutting into my backlog, I'll need the lifespan of an elf to finish everything!
- Paint over 200 models - this gives me an extra goal in case I buy nothing this year (unlikely) or at least gives me something achievable if I end up buying hundreds and hundreds of models I've made it over this level the last two years.
- Finish off one army - I've got fully painted Dark Elf and Dwarf armies, let's get another one complete. Probably my Orcs and Goblins. I considered finishing my Vampire Counts, but I have so many big models (Mortis Engine, Coven Throne, Zombie Dragon, Terrorgheist, new Black Coach etc.) to do there's no way I could finish them this year and retain my sanity.
- Paint models from at least 8 different armies - so that none of them feel too neglected.
- Make a start on my Lizardmen and Ogres - I should be able to get at least some regular troops done for both of these.
- Paint at least two of my long-neglected centrepiece models - I'm thinking of the great big lumps of resin, such as my Mierce Kholek Suneater, or Forgeworld Merwyrm, Carmine Dragon, Magma Dragon and Iron Daemon.
I reckon 1-3 I should achieve, the others might be a push.
I did pretty well here: - I received 145 models this year, and painted 251. That's the backlog reduced by a net 106. I'm very happy with that, and want (need) to keep making at least that amount of progress each year if I'm to have a hope of ever getting close to eliminating it.
- 251 painted, which is a record for me.
- Failed on this, but I'm not too bothered. I enjoyed flitting between armies. It also helped keep my numbers high by allowing me to work on infantry units across various armies rather than finishing time-consuming characters or bigger ones.
- Beastmen, Warriors of Chaos, Orcs & Goblins, Wood Elves, Vampire Counts, Ogres, Dwarfs, Tomb Kings, Daemons of Chaos, Dark Elves. That's 10 - happy with that. No love for High Elves, Bretonnia, Empire, Skaven, Lizardmen or Chaos Dwarfs.
- Half achieved - I got my 20 Ogre Bulls complete. Lizardmen remain untouched.
- I painted Kholek and my Merwyrm, so this was achieved.
4.5/6 is good enough for me.
I'll get a 2023 thread up soon.

Moar monsters. Additional beastmen. A couple of additions to my tomb kings and chaos dwarfs. Assemble and paint a fair few of the Vampire Counts/spiritual undead I've accumulated. Finish painting at least one terrain piece. Base and get weeping willow ready for battle. I actually did a fair bit of this Definitely nailed the monsters part. Added to my Beastmen a fair bit and a couple of things for Chaos Dwarfs. Did a very minor bit of terrain but that still counts and the weeping willows were ready. More trees 🌳 🌲 🌴 🌳 🌲 were made ready for the battlefield than expected. The Undead however didn't get so much love, I cannot remember making any painted additions to my tomb kings during the year. Vampire Counts didn't get a 'fair few' but I did assemble a fair few and painted a unit of blood knights and a banshee so close. Overall a good year with some great additions.
