Time for another army I think. Undivided Chaos Warriors. Painted this way so I could use them as any Mark though most often it's been Mark of Slaanesh (as the closest approximation of the old Mark of Chaos Undivided from 6/7th - reroll failed panic) while making failed attempts to make warrior unit MSU work. These guys use the same warhounds from the Undivided Beastmen army. 20 Sword and board warriors 20 Halberd Warriors Spare warrior command group for when I run them MSU 3 Chariots (2 normal, 1 gorebeast) 2 units of 5 Knights (you can tell I painted these mainly during 7th) 13 Chosen Hellcannon and crew 6 (old school metal) Dragon Ogres. I rebased them from their original 40mm bases to 50mm squares so I can use them in Kings of War. I just add cavalry base spacers behind the bases if I use them in 8th. I just finished the last 2 of these the other month to use with the Khorne army at the North Remembers tournament. Inspired by that, some of the new plastic ones are on the painting table at moment. There is a Shaggoth as well painted in the same scheme but he needs repairs. Slaaneshi mage and BSB on steeds Tzeentch Sorceror on Disc (Xaltotun the Diminutive) Foot and mounted sorcerors and Hero on foot. I've often used the Chosen Champion and Standard Bearer as characters as well (Lord and BSB).

I really like the way you painted the skin on the Dragon Ogres.

That bone armoured champion is one of my all time favourite chaos models. Loving these armies ‘on parade’. I keep wondering what you are going to pull out next!

Thanks Sweet_Totally. The dragon ogre colour scheme is based on the chaos troll one from the 6th Ed Beasts of Chaos release. (Red scales, black flesh, off-white belly). I think I actually more or less followed the GW recipe (very unusual for me) the first time I did it but now i'm stuck trying to replicate it 18 years later without the contemporary paints. Getting something near enough though. WIP photo of the 3 current ones i'm now working on below (2 layers done on the off-white, 2 more to go), these had been sat round undercoated for about 8 years. Need to get an order in for another 3 to complete the unit - I like the models and am enjoying painting them though the faces of the old ones have much more character.

The next army will be up very soon (though calling it that is a little bit of cheat). Added the WIP of the Drogres above as I was starting to feel like I was just wheeling out stuff painted years ago!

I love the classic character minis. And the dragon ogres too. Old metal is my jam!

Beautiful army. I really like the vibrant splash of colour the marked units bring in.

This is an update post on work in progress but also a warning of the perils of mission creep. I'm often torn between progressing my chaos armies that are already armies in being, developing smaller armies to that level or out and out finishing armies. So far i've not actually finished any because none of them are quite close enough where I could get it done in one quick push. The undivided warriors (along with the Nurgle Daemons) have been the closest for a while. I finally finished off my old metal Dragon Ogres early this year prompted by taking them to a tournament. I enjoyed painting those so rode the momentum into getting 6 modern ones done as well - which broke the back of what was outstanding for this army. I was close enough to make that push to get the army finished! I prepped what was left (all from the stash): mounted chaos lord; warshrine; 5 metal chosen to add to the existing unit of 13 to finish that off. Even at my current slow pace it won't take me long to get those done, surely. There's only 7 models and 5 of them are infantry. Even adding in the Emang sculpt of Kholek I bought (not pictured as it's been printed in dayglo yellow and i've not prepped and primed it yet) is only one extra (very large but quite simple) model. Then misson creep happened, because if I'm going to finish the army i've got to finish it properly. Of course I do. That's Khagra's Ravagers at the front - been tempted by that set for a while and I decided I needed a proper cadre of dedicated characters for the force in case I play campaign games with them where I could use say a different exalted hero for each game. And there are 12 chosen there now. Decided a unit of 18 just wasn't chunky enough and I wanted 24. 2 more metals off ebay for semi-reasonable prices and one set of the finecasts before they go oop and bob's your uncle. Second from right in the back row is a standard bearer conversion because i've decided the actual chosen standard model needs to be the BSB full time. I can still just about cope with these additions though it's now looking (with the warshrine and Kholek) like about 6 months work. But the threat of even more mission creep lurks, and it is twofold! Firstly, I still want the start collecting Slaves to Darkness models. If I got the knights from that i'd have to get the new box with command options that is coming out too. And if I managed to rank up the warriors to add to my hw/sh unit i'd then be getting tempted to split the halberds into 2 units adding extra models. At least I don't like those new warriors holding their halberds halfway down at an angle so I'm not tempted by those. And i'm tempted by the idea of a Monsters of Chaos list all painted in the same scheme as my Drogres and led by Kholek. Add a Throgg stand in and a bunch of trolls to fill core. Get some lizard theme chaos hounds for chaff (options here are the 5th ed scaley sculpt hound, and 5th ed flesh hounds without the ruff), paint the Chimera in that scheme and away we go. If I did do this it would really be a another army in it's own right and i'd be up to [redacted] planned chaos armies. Insane.

Very cool looking unit! The new models fit in well, and particularly from the back give an impression of a unit marching into combat and then preparing to fight as they reach the front.
Those mould lines would bug me though - given it's just metal and a little bone at the top, would it not be worth scraping them off and repainting those bits?
