So, with the wood elves complete to 2k, my hobby hand is itching and with no small part due to some The Last Kingdom binge watching, I have decided that Warriors of Chaos with a Norse style will be my next army.
As always, the aesthetics of the army is more important to me than the cheese-ability of it, it's not that I don't like winning...but the painting, and army building is the main draw to the hobby for me. For me this army is on the cusp of turning to chaos - they have started taking on dragon ogre followers as they rampage across the northern wastes, finding their strength and tenacity in battle a great boon...though they are yet to experience the mutating forces of chaos nor have they attracted the eye of a specific chaos god.
The list I will be working toward is ...

Colour scheme will be in browns, greys and greens. Natural colours of hardy northern folk.
My warriors will not be standard models, I'm hoping instead to represent the strong kinsmen of the north. I will be using the new Warcry Chaos Legionnaires box(..es) , kitbashed with marauder helms and old 90s orc sheilds to get that clansman look. They will not have the heavy armour of the original models but as the only infantry of the force it will be obvious what they are.
My BSB will be a light conversion of the Darkoath champion, removing his greatsword and replacing it with brass rod. The Sorcerer lord will be represented by the Darkoath God Speaker - a craven crone, wielding mighty shadow magic. My warhounds will be fenrisian wolves, as I prefer not only the aesthetics of the wolf with this force, but also the more dynamic posing of the models.
In addition to the list above, I will be painting two additional models to represent a demon prince and a spawn for eye of the gods rolls.
Yndrasta from the stormcast range, with a weapon and head swap will be my Demon prince. Raven winged and hornéd of helm. Blessed by the corvus goddess, the ascended champion will smite his foes and lead his army to glorious victory!
For a spawn, I will use a Thunderwolf from the space wolves range. The shamed champion's hair and beard falls away, his gums erupting with jagged fangs as thick wirey fur pushes painfully through his bronzed skin - he falls to all fours and howls in wild abandon.
So there - the plans are in place, models are on their way. I await their arrival eagerly! ✌️
